I downloaded the PDF file that someone posted for the battery mount mod, but I have a couple questions.

1. How exactly did you make it (bend aluminum into the right shape and drill holes, etc.) Just enough to give me something to go on.

2. What did you make it out of (aluminum, steel, etc.)?

Thanks again.

i made one out of that same pdf. i used 1/16th inch aluminum. i think you could use something even thinner but that is what i had.

as for the cutting drilling bending, i used a vise, drill press, jewelry grinding wheel and tin snips (dirty but they work). i know that not every one has these tools, so i think you could get away with a dremmal tool, hand drill and pliers

if its the pdf im thinking of the only tricky part is the little tab that goes over an alu. spacer on the frame, for this i found a peace of wire/ rod that was similar in size to the spacer. take a piece of that and with your pliers, clamp the rod against the aluminum and bend in a rolling motion with the pliers, repeat this until you have a nice U shape bend. if you want you can stop there. but if you would like the tab then take your pliers and bend out a small tab at the end, and then, with your rod back in place, clamp the U shut around the rod. you could also use a mallet but i wouldnt unless you have fabrication experience

for drilling the holes you can either find a thin piece of wood, hold it behind the aluminum and go slow ( try not to drill through your fingers) or you can just unfold it a little bit and drill where youve marked.

be careful if your useing aluminum, as it can be brittle so if you bend it one direction try not to bend it to far back in the opposite direction or bend it multiple times on the same spot

I'm not very good at describing fabrication like this in words but i hope this helps some. if you have any other questions, or you want to try a different mount let me know and ill put up the dimensions of mine.

also if you have an idea of what you want, try using cardboard as a mock up and just copy it over to the aluminum.

as a street rod builder, that is GOOD advise....

also if you can make holes in the aluminum you can use small zip-ties to attach to the frame...

I believe the pdf file that you are referring to is the one that I designed. I made it out of .020" aluminum and drilled one hole at the bottom to insert one of the small Gaui screws and the top is shaped to clip onto the frame spacer (see attached revised pdf)

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

That was my intent of providing a 1:1 pdf file of the mount. I figured if I went through the hassle to create a template, I may as well share it. ;)

where did you find the .020'' Aluminum?

I bought it at Galaxy Hobby in Lynnwood. It is a standard hobby item so I would assume they have it at Hobbytown too.
