This forum is where I've found most of the info I needed on the 14MZ, so my turn to give some news :)

I've just received a new firmware from Robbe: 4.20 (0)/1.3.0/1.39

They didn't give any release notes, but by quickly running through the menu and by memory, I've been able to find the following differences:

- Date & Time: Now has a model time counter, one can switch between display of the system counter(old behavior) and model counter on the home screen.

- Sound volumes: Now 4 separate volume settings for key, error/warning, trim and timer

- Model Selection: Can now sort models by date, name or manual order, woohoo! (manual mode not available on models stored on the card)

- End Point: There's now a "master" servo speed setting on each channel.

- Timer: Both timers now have a "Memory" setting that when on will keep the timers' values when the transmitter is turned off.

- Dial monitor: Display can be switched between "Steps" and %. There's also a little box with a value that can be set next to each trim, haven't found out what it does yet.

- Function name: New! One can rename all functions to whatever we like. E.G "Camera" instead of "Auxiliary1".

That's all I've seen for now, but I of course don't know all the menus by heart http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

Quite a few cool things IMO.

Is this version update for the U.S.? Isn't Robbe for European Radios?

As seen on RCFAN's page (http://www.rcfan.com/radios.html), updates coming from robbe and Futaba US (FFC) seem to have been identical in the past.

do you have a link to the site?
just wondering if they have any updates for the 12Z.

Unfortunately no site, here the Robbe importer sends updates by e-mail to registered customers.

Hi, i would appreciate and thank thank you in Advance if you could e-mail me the upgrade file !

I can post it, but even if from past experience everything should be fine, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. And be sure to report your findings

EDIT: Removed link, a new version has been released, check post #9 below.

Futaba download page is open to everybody.
You just have to put your radio serial number (with all the 0) in this page:
http://www.rc.futaba.co.jp/hobby/11_down/login.cfm?page_id=1
and choose your radio on the left.

Kilrah description is very complete but there was a bug in this release (1.3.0-1.39) from May 28 and they just put a new one friday 6, 1.3.1-1.39.
The bug was in the dual rate menu but I don't know much.
There is a PDF file explaining every new functions but it is in japanese. There are anyway lots of screen shots.

Hi Kilrah,
The small box near the trim value is used to change the step value of the trim. Just change it (a lot) and move the trim, you will understand.;)

Then you forgot few functions but I don't blame you! Without documentation you did a great job.
From what I understand in the japanese documentation:

- There are new model types for sailplane (PCM 1024 only).

- You can keep your data when changing swash mode between these swash types:
H1, H2, HE3, HR3, HN3, H3 to/from H1, H2, HE3, HR3, HN3, H3
H4, H4X to/from H4, H4X
But you will loose it in this case: H1, H2, HE3, HR3, HN3, H3 to/from H4, H4X

- In the switch menu for mixing programs if you choose NULL then you will have choice between ON and OFF, that means allways ON or always OFF.

- 10 channel mode in PCM 1024: To use this have to attribute a switch to channel 9 (DG1) and 10 (DG2) and
the you can reverse them or not in the Reverse menu.

- Then in Display menu you can now set the backlight time always on or always off...

Everything else you have already documented.

Oh OK. For some reason I thought that had its own menu page. Must be some leftovers in my memory from the 9Z age ;)

- In the switch menu for mixing programs if you choose NULL then you will have choice between ON and OFF, that means allways ON or always OFF.
That's a strange one, before if you chose NULL it would be always ON, then if you want to turn it always OFF (why would you anyway?), you just deactivate it (INH)... Don't get why they've done that one... maybe people were getting confused

I've often made some "always on" mixes, like my in-flight control throw adjustment trick... use a dial to adjust the throw and find the right spot for realistic flying

Hi

Yesterday I upgraded my 14mz.
Windows: Ver. 4.20 (0)
Editor: Ver. 1.3.0
Encoder: Ver. 1.39

I did downloaded it from:
http://www.rc-tech.ch/divers/T14MZ_080530-2015.zip
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

Nice. I haven't look through all displays, and functions yet.
I do like tht there is a seperate timercounter for each model,
however, I do still think it crap, that when you push on the timer, it "zeroes" the timer, with out asking "are your sure: YES/NO"

- so now my timers is starting all over:thumbdown:

Yeah, that was already the same with the system timer before. I agree they could redirect you to the date/time page when clicking on the timer on the lower left corner instead of resetting it...

BTW read post #9, there's an even newer bugfix version now, I've removed the link in my post. Timer still behaves the same though ;)

This one is probably for testing purpose. Futaba still has its mysterious ways...
It does exactly the same as the INH/ON button!!!:DOH

Kilrah

Yeah, and the INH is only one click away, when with the new method you need to open the switch page, then click on/off, then select OFF.. pointless.

Using an online translation service:

• Verlängerung der Reichweitentest-Zeit
Extension of the range testing time
• Freie Namensgebung aller Funktionen
Free naming of all functions
• Umpolung der Schaltrichtung von Schalter „Null“
Pole reversal of the switching direction of switch ‘NULL’
• Übernahme der Kurveneinstellung bei Wechsel des Taumelscheibentyps
Assumption of the curves settings with change of the type of swash plate
• Individuelle Lautstärkeeinstellung für Tastenton, Stoppuhr etc.
Individual volume level for key tone, stop watch etc.
• Erweitere Modelltypauswahl für Segelflugmodelle bei PCM 1024 Modulation
Extend selection of type of model for sail flight models with PCM 1024 Modulation
• Stoppuhr wahlweise mit oder ohne Reset
Stop watch alternatively with or without RESET
• Trimmeranzeige in Step oder %
Trimmer display in steps or %
• Abschaltung der Displaybeleuchtung
Disconnection of the display lighting
• Unterdrückung der Geberwegeinstellung (AFR) bei gemischten Funktionen
Suppression of the dual rate (AFR) with mixed functioning
• Modellspeichersortierung nach Name, Datum oder Manuell
Model internal sorting after name, date or manual
• Automatische, optimierte Konfiguration der Empfängerausgänge
Automatic, optimized configuration of the receiver's exits
• Modellspeichertimer
Model memory timer

It seems we forgot the first one, a longer range testing time. In fact I just passed through all the 2.4 Ghz functions as they are all new in Japan where this technology has just been released this month.
There are still difficult to understand ones... Like the NULL switch ON/OFF... It could be more a reversal of the mixing than a on/off function.
This one does not have much meaning to me 'Automatic, optimized configuration of the receiver's exits.'
I realized I forgot about the AFR (AFR suppression when mixing is used) in my translation of the japanese release. It seems that the channel you can use AFR/dual rates have been reduced. In fact if there already is a special function/mixing somewhere else you won't be able to use AFR/dual rates. Here is the list of these functions:
Aileron 2-3-4
Flap 2-4
Rudder 2
Throttle (Helicopter only)
Pitch
Camber
Gyro 1-2-3
Governor 1-2
Mixture
Multiprop
They just extend these restrictions where needed.

Anyway there is enough information in this thread to use this new upgrade (1.3.1 - 1.39) which includes really cool stuff.:)
Release in other country won't be different but they will take time because of the notice translation...;)

"Automatische, optimierte Konfiguration der Empfängerausgänge"

Basically it changes the channel assignments automatically according to the reciever you're using. G3 has different channel assignments than a 6114. Until now you need to confirm the new channel assignments even with a new model. Probably now it doesn't ask anymore

Thanks for this confirmation. I have just change a friend 's model from PCM G3 to 2.4 Ghz and I was happy to see that even with a new channel assignment I didn't have to set again all curves, dual rates and others. I remenber when I changed from PCM 1024 to PCM G3 throttle curves where reset and all function that were assigned to different channel were to be set again.
This release is definitly worth doing it!

On Futaba's Japanese page you just have to enter your radio serial number with all the zeros (whatever it is a 14MZ, 12Z, 12FG or FX40) and then on the download page look at the zip file which is dated 2008/06/06 for your radio.

If you don't succeed PM me your email and I will send it to you.;)

Thx

I ended putting my real serial number in and it worked. Thx for the 0 tip though. Next time when at work I won't have to be calling the wife and asking her to check out the numbers on my 14mz lol
