I just changed the motors, on my CX2, out to the SE180's . It flew great for the first couple of times, But now it wants to spin uncontrollably and the 4 in 1 controller will flash from green to red and not shut the lower rotors off.
Do you need to bind the transmitter to the 4 in 1 when changing motors? Any one got any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Update:
I put the stock motors back in and everything is working fine, Possibly a bad SE180 motor? Iam puzzled.

I would have a tendency to believe it is a bad motor. I would call whereever you bought them and talk to them. I deal with Jamie at Boomtown and I know he is good.

Just talked with SlickZero. where I got the motors from, They believe a capacitor went bad on one of the motors and is causing interference with the 4 in 1. The are sending two new motors, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. At least I can still fly with the stock motors.
Thanks for the reply

Great I am glad to hear that they helped you out.

Check the brushes too. I've seen the brushes pop out of the spring arm on the SE180's causing all sorts of strange behavior.

i always end up going back to the stock motors

Why is that rotorhead58d? I would of assumed that the SE180's were a much better motor.

Got my new SE180 motors back yesterday, everything is running great so far. Ive gone through two batteries with no problems. Definitly has more power and runs cooler than the stock motors.
OOPS --I quess they do have more torque, Just took out around 4 teeth off of the lower gear for the inner shaft. Still flys but sounds like a rock crusher. Quess I'll be buying the extreme gear set.:arggg:

I just installed the motors. I like them. Can and should the eflight heat sink be mounted on them? I kind of like the graphics on the casing.
also, where do i find information on maintaining these things? is maintenence necessary? what about "running in"? where do you get replacement brushes and such?
thanks

I am pretty sure that Boomtown will have replacement brushes. They are vented so they should not get as hot as the stock motors. I have the first run 180BB motors on my Cx2 and have had for about a year and a half and have never done anything to them except blow them out. I have the 180SE's that I will be putting on when my 4 in 1 gets here. I will put the heat sinc on but I run in heats that most folks wont even walk around in. My machines get really hot, and dusty. Plus I will be putting a KA-50 body on in a few weeks as soon as I get it ordered and here.

I got my motors from SlickZero, They also have the replacement brush sets for them. I don't know how long the brushes last but I ordered a set just to have , They are pretty cheap. I didn't do anything special for breakin, Just put them in and flew. I wouldn't think you would need the heat sink as they run alot cooler then the stock motors, although the heat sinks look cool and of course if your next door to Kindling Maker in 100+ weather.

Thanks for the help guys!
Frankly, I feel a little guilty for not doing the proper break-in and whatever for the motors, but by the sounds of things its not really that necessary.
Kindling, are you in the military then? Being in Iraq?
Stsrus, where in oregon are you? i'm in portland.

I'm in beautiful downtown Salem.
Have you seen any sort of breakin instructions for the SE180's? I've never seen anything so I just went ahead and flew/crashed it like normal.

nothing official. i read somewhere that the motors sounded 'loud' so they ran the motors for 5 min at a sub hover throttle setting. after that they felt that the motor was quieter and maybe performed a little better. the idea is that the brushes seat better. i don't really understand the anatomy of the motors, so i really dont know what that means. there is a section on brushed motors on radd's heli school web site, but i didn't find it that helpful.

I just plug'em in and throw enough air under them to run a pack or 2 down. I have the old 180 BB motors and have never had a problem. I am a military contractor, I run heavy equipment for the military. My biggest problemhere is it really gets my electronics HOT on my 400 I run in the 170-180 range on my ESC, and that is with a BEC. Oh yea one other problem NO whiskey and NO women. But other than that is it not as bad as the media tells everyone hell we have not been shot at in a long time so it has gotten better than when I got here in 04, back then you could set your watch by what time the martars came in. so it has gotten alit better in the 4 years than it was.

well i'm sure we all appreciate you being down there. i realize youre not a soldier, but SOMEONE has to go down there to do those jobs.
anyway, did you see the posts regarding the 9T pinion for b400? i'm thinking about doing that. reduces headspeed a little, keeps stuff cooler, things don't wear as quickly, longer run times (?). also, after crashing twice, i'm trying to get in a lot more sim time. Its so strange to me though. I can fly the CP around no problem, and I get much more intimidated by the b400. Plus I feel like I'm losing orientation every now and then- its bizarre- it flies better and is bigger so it should be easier. maybe because i'm doing FF slower so that results in a more hover-like FF which requires more 'flying'. but i thought my orig problem was getting going too fast. oh well. stick time is stick time. thinking about buying a glider for 'relaxation'! LOL. isnt THIS supposed to be relaxing. haha

I am just happy to be able to fly, I am on an airport, but the tower says I can fly as long as I keep it low.But I do punch outs everyonce in a while I was thinking about running the sensitivity of the sticks down a bit, I think you can do it with EXPO. Well I gotta get back to the shop and go do finish worrk in an un-aircontioned motorgrader.
