Hello All, Can you folks direct me to a basic setup thread/doc or whatever
to setup my new T-Rex eCCPM & the Futaba 401 Gyro.
I'm asking if info is already posted in a current thread cuz it's probably already been asked previously but darned if I can find it.

Transmitter is Futaba 7CAP in heli mode and all appears well up to this
mode.

I've read the 401 manual that came with the gyro and my brain (whats left) turns to mush.

This my first heli ever, I'm aware of all the downside of choosing this but this is what I'll stick with.

Many Thanks,
Ray_B

try www.raptortechnique.com for setup help.

For the gyro, set channel 5 atv (and plug in the single wire connector to ch 5) to 100% up, and less than 50% down, leave the rudder channel alonne for the time being. Turn on the radio and see if the LED goes solid or blinks. If it blinks, reverse channel 5, turn off and back on the receiver, and see if it goes solid.
Once you get it to stay solid, you can adjust rudder to 70%, and determine direction of gyro and servo.
This should get you started, as the 401 instructions suck... :)
Needless to say, you WANT the LED to be solid, it indicates Heading hold, or AVCS mode.
Once you've gotten the gyro to initialize in AVCS, switch to normal (LED off) and adjust your linkage to the heli's instructions.
Keep in mind that flipping from AVCS to normal 3 times or moving the stick right/left rapidly 3 times will reset the gyro.. and confuse the hell out of you.

Hello All, Well been somewhat of a struggle getting this far but...

Question: I've now got the 401 gyro partially set up.
The LED goes solid and then I believe the tail rotor is moving the wrong way.

After everything has initialized I move the tail to right/nose goes left.
The "Tail Rotor Control goes to the right also.
I believe it should be going toward the tailboom or tail unit housing (same thing)

How to correct this (if I'm right) ??
Many Thanks,
Ray

Most important is the direction of rotation of your tailrotor. Make certain that it is turning the correct way as per the kits instructions.
Bypass the gyro and plug the tail servo directly into the reciever, and set normal or reverse direction that way, then reconnect through the gyro as before..
Once you have done this, You will know that the direction is correct, and all that is left is to confirm the gyro corrects the proper way.
Hypothetically, your tail should drive opposite of the input, or tail goes right on left input on radio (moving the nose of chopper left). Note the direction the pushrod moves to achieve this result. (You will be tested on this later ;) )
If left Tx input pushes control rod to rear, Rotating the heli's nose right should also push the control rod rearwards.
Once you've established that the tail control rod pushes for one direction (Tx input) rotating the chopper the opposite direction ( of input) the gyro should compensate by pushing the rod. If it is opposite, reverse the direction on the gyro and re-initialize it. It is important to turn on/off any time you make a change to allow the gyro to reset it's neutral point.
My Trex is not currently in front of me, So an exact direction of rotation and duplicate information of my setup is not feasable, besides, I deviated from the instructions a bit.. :)

Remember to adjust the rod length manually after you get it to hover by switching to 'normal' and extend/shorten the rod accordingly to get it to hold. It will make things soooooo much easier in AVCS later!
