Hello all, I am new to this forum. I have just recieved my TP 610 charger. I connected it to my car battery and it displayed the model and version information. I could not get this to move off of this display. I then removed the power to try and reset it and now all I have is several blocks in the display. I have tried selecting different things with no success. Does anyone know how to reset the the charger or had this problem and fixed it?

I would suggest calling TP tech support during normal business hours. They are very knowledgeable and responsive.

I have two of these chargers and they both give me a headacke. I LCD screens go BAD! T/P has had my first one in repair for about 2 weeks. I still don't have my 610 back. I beleive they get too hot when charging 4cells of about 4ooo mah. As soon as I get my first one back, I will be sending the second back for the same repair problem. I bought these units at Joe Nall not over 6 weeks ago. The elec/vendors said these were the latest and greatest on the market. I have 3 Astro 109's never a problem. IMHO, the 610 is more overseas JUNK!

Just out of curiosity, what do you use as a power supply?

Rudy, same problem with my charger, display went bad. I sent it back 2 weeks ago and still have not received the replacement. The charger went bad the 2nd time I hooked it up. First time I hooked it up to a adjustable supply set to 12.5 volts second time was to my car battery and thats when it went bad. (car was not running) It sounds like TP has gotten a bad shipment of displays.

Had the same problem w/ two of the 610s, both were version 5.1. TP service told me the version change has nothing to do with the dispaly problem and stated
"We have had about 25 of the 5000 now in use have screen problems, we do not think it has anything to do with the version, we thing our manufacture got some bad screens, if your does it please fill in the RMA Request Form located in the Support Section of our website and we will get it replaced for you."
I now have version 5.4 and so far so good after a wk or so. I have been chg/dchg A123 packs and it gets quite warm, so I will just have it close to a 12v fan which I got from an old pc.

My largest pack is a 6s 2600 (65.5 Watts at 1C charge rate). The charger gets warm, but not hot ... I'll try and get some measurements this week. My input voltage is steady and regulated at 13.8, reading 13.6 under load at the charger.
I'm curious about those who are experiencing "hot" chargers.
1) What size pack are you charging at what rate (1C, 2C, etc...)
2) What type of power source
3) What is the input voltage as displayed on the charger at the end of the CC phase?
4) What temperature is the hottest area of the top of the charger?
Example:
1) 6s, 2600 mah, 1C
2) Switch mode regulated Alinco DM-330MVT
3) 13.6VDC
4) 110 F

Marc
1) 2s 2300mah, 1800mah-1C, tried both
2) Pro Peak 13.8v, 20A
3) 6.969V
4) I would say the hottest is the back cover and bottom. TP mentioned thats due to the design of alum. case and internal components to allow passive heat transfer. I don't have temp prob, but it's warm enough that if I held it continuous, I would burn my fingers after approx. 5-10 seconds. It isn't during chg that it is getting warm, but more so on d/c at 1A. I just did the fan thing and it remained cool to touch t/o the entire d/c, chg cycle.

I sent two of these pieces of junk back to TP. Worst charger for the money. These must have a fan to cool as u are charging. I believe that is what causes the screens to go bad. This is a brand new item, why all the necessary software upgrades? I'm sorry I ever got involved.

Rudy I am in total agreement with your frustration. I have been using a fan for chg/dchg and it was working fine for approx. 25 times. I haven’t used it for about 5 days till this AM, and now it's very difficult to see what's flashing. The digits in the display are all there (so far), I just can't see what's flashing when I make changes, or as it's charging, the numbers seem to be overlapping each other. Mine is now version 5.4, so they are having more issues than just "a bad batch of displays" they told me with the last one we had which was version 5.1.

Danorm, I have had many conversations with their tech support personnel. They have had one of my 610's in their facility for over 5(FIVE) weeks. They claim they are waiting for a batch to come in from Korea. If I wasn't one such good terms with my local HS, you know where I would tell them to put their charger! On another note: I got two of the TURNIGY accucell 6S chargers. They are GREAT! Only 39$ usc from Hobby City. They balance well, have a built in fan, great blue/white LCD and just work great. Much much better than the $130 TP junk. I would highly recommend the Turnigy (currently being advertised inh Fly RC mag) over most of the 6S 50 watt chargers on the market today. Especially at this price! As a matter of fact, its the SAME charger as many other distributors. Just in a different alum box. Good Luck!

I have v5.1 and only charge 3s 2100 - 2500 lipo's for my T-450's. Mine only gets slightly warm to the touch, near the bottom, and only if it is discharging a lot to keep a pack balanced. Otherwise it stays pretty cool. I use a converted 500-watt PC power supply that outputs about 12.0 vdc (according to the 610C). The only thing I do for cooling is to place it in the airflow coming off the cooling fan from the PC power supply. I occasionally notice the display getting getting very light in spots, but it is never constant. I've had mine since Jul-08 and have charged about 100 cycles so far. I'm pretty satisfied with mine so far.
