I took my Hurri out to the monthly heli flyers get together near where I live to have an experienced pilot give it the once over and make sure I had it all setup right before putting some air between it and mother earth.. other than some programming to add a little expo I had everything pretty much spot on. the it was time for me to step out in the mid sun and feed it some electrons.. did I mention it was HOT AS HELL out today (temps around 100F with 60% humidity).. but that didn't stop me.. I loaded up on some water to beat back the heat and got set...

I spooled her up... the soft start is REAL nice..

straightened her out.... and....

LIFT OFF!!!

I brought her up into an eye level hover.. tracking was dead on

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h119/mysticmead/Hurricane%20550/Maiden%20Flight/100_0376.jpg
did a little side in hover...

love this shot...

after 5 minutes it was time to end this Maiden flight.. so I brought her back over the landing pad..
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h119/mysticmead/Hurricane%20550/Maiden%20Flight/100_0377.jpg

for a nice soft landing...

I still need to work on getting the tail setup right.. other than that.. all I can say is... anyone want a slightly used 450?? I doubt it'll be getting much air time from now on...

Anyone who's out there lurking and thinking about getting a Hurricane 550... DO IT.. you won't regret it..

MM....

Congratulations ! It looks great in the air and the color scheme should be easy to see. I'm getting ready to use a yellow scheme similar to yours on a spare canopy.

Now start racking up the hours and get used to the feel....I love the 550. Ive gone a little nuts with lipos and just bought another set of 3200 30c enerlands. I now have 6 sets of packs when I go flying.....takes a Sh*T load of time to recharge and balance all of them but I get more than 35 mins actual flying time....

Great pics....congrats again...I know you have been reading and waiting a long while to get it purchased and airborne...

Hey Mystic, great job! Feels nice don't it? I bet it was bloody freezing there and you put the shorts shades and vest on just to pretend you were in Borneo eh?
Your heli looks well cool, welcome to the 'fold'

Hey Mystic,

GREAT pictures! I can't wait to get mine up (and then hopefully back down safely) in the air! I'm getting close I think. With work and all my other "responsibilities" I'm able to put in a couple of hours a day construction time. I just finished soldering connectors to my motor wires and ESC, and will get the connectors on my batteries tomorrow.

Looking at your canopy, it's really nice! I assume you painted it yourself? What kind of paint did you use? Was it the plain white one you received?

mysticmead

yep.. it was the stock bleach bottle white canopy.. I used Kustom Kolor paints on it (made by house of kolor).. Neon yellow, metallic red and bright orange.. followed by a couple coats of clear.. the paints can normally be found at hobby shops..

Cool man! I knew you'd have a new heli before long. Now, we just need to fly together sometime.

Yup, that's him. Either that or that very same male model introduced himself as Mysticmead to me the other weekend.

He's not lying about the kilt either. He turned up at the Chatti Heli jam in one.

Now kids- I've been lots of places, and seen a great many things, but thru all my years I'd never stood on a landfill, breathed nitro fumes, and talked to a man in a black kilt all at the same time before. . :rolling

Hell-I'd wear a kilt, but with my short legs, shaved head an beer gut, I'd look like a lava lamp.
