I have these, and would like to install them the next time I strip the plastic factory ones (already happened once, and replaced them). They seem to be about .05" wider & .03" longer than the factory ones, and I know that you need to do a bit of work to get them installed.

Would someone please post a step-by-step of what you did, to which part, with what tool? I'm a bit new to this, and would like to get it correct. Pictures would be great!

Thanks.

I'll run through what I did recently...

I replaced the elevator servo first - no mod needed.

For the rear servos, I removed both, taking care to note where each was plugged into the receiver.
Next, I used some medium sand paper attached to a metal ruler (which just happened to slide into the space perfectly...) and slowly widened both sides of the servo mounting area.

I kept checking with one of the HS65's to make sure I didn't sand down more than was needed. I also made sure I sanded both opposite sides, so that one side didn't end up thinner/weaker than the other.

After a couple of minutes sanding and checking, they both went in nicely - tight, but not too tight.
The mounting holes lined up perfectly, and I used the original mounting screws to hold them in.

The job seemed more daunting than it actually was...

Hi Treaves, I upgraded mine only yesterday. I found the front cyclic servo pocket just needed a little shaved off the main shaft side using a scalpel or trimming knife. Ideally you want the servos to fit neatly without distorting the frame around it. The two servos just in front of the gyro were a bit of a challenge, the two key areas to tidy up are the recesses for the wiring loom from the back of the servo plus the top and rear inside edges of the servo pocket. During the moulding process a sharp edge is generated which protrudes into the pocket, I found using a small flat file to fashion a lead or bevel did the trick. If you inspect the main shaft side of the pocket you'll see a secondary recess created for servo lead clearance, from the factory it's kind of stepped and needs to be evened out which effectively makes it a little deeper. Once again I used a small flat file, the Chinese made type you find at hobby or hardware stores. As xpower180 pointed out the mounting holes on the Hitec servos are pretty much identical to the stock items so no drilling required there. Once again I'll mirror what xpower180 said and encourage you to take particular notice of where the various leads plug in and the orientation of the plug in terms of where the black or earth lead is located (I'm pretty sure all the black leads are at the bottom - someone should correct me if I'm wrong).

hope this helps

Harry

Thanks to both of you for your responses. It's enough to get me going on it!
