So one of the attractions to the Hurr'y 550 for me was that I can still use my T-Rex 450 packs, but I know ultimately I'll want to get some bigger Gaui specific packs. So what are you all using in the 3s1p class? Something along the lines of below:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6597&Product_Name=Zippy-K_3000mAh_3S1P_20-30C_

I've found it best to be cheap with my batteries, having killed two so far while learning to fly my T-Rex 450 I'm pleased to say that I was flying cheapies so I didn't completely breakdown when I crunched my 11 flights old G-Force 11.v 3s1p pack a few weeks back.

What are you guys flying in the 6s class (which if I'm not mistaken will only fit on the carbon framed 550)?

I have 2 sets of 2200 25C Kong Powers, 2 sets of 2200 25C Aplus's and a set of 2200 25C Air Thunders. The Air Thunders and Kong Powers are both "no puff" technology and are slightly heavier which balance the heli better (I have to slide the Aplu's forward slightly)

two sets of KP 2200's, three 8s1p a123 packs and two FP 3200 evo 30's. out of all of them, my favorite is the flightpowers. crazy flight times, and they were only $100 each.

Drew,
I am using a set of those batteries in my H550 with Z20-980. I get 7 mins hover training and they barely get warm. I believe they are great value for learning with.
I also have 2 sets of 7s A123's which give me around 6 mins or so.

2 x 3s1p 3200mah Kong Power packs. A little nose heavy, but very robust packs. I have had 4 major crashes with the same set.. One crash even lacerated the outer shrink wrapping. They are still going fine. My first 20 flights I ran the heli till the HS dropped & I was putting 3000 + mah back. Each set has over 120 cycles now, & I starting to notice a slight drop in voltage towards the of a flight with one set only.

All in all I'm very happy & have ordered another set.

Cheers
Graeme

Anybody know what the difference between the Zippy R, H and K series batteries are?

all seem similar in price and specs

Do zippy batts use the standard Align JST balance plug?

They look like very good value batteries

Cheers

Oh and does anybody know where Hobby City are based?

Is it Asia somewhere?

on the Zippy batteries, H and K versions are from China... the Zippy-R's are from Korea. yes, they have the standard align JST connector on them and Hobby City is in Hong Kong

Hobby City and United Hobbies are one in the same, I think they're in Hong Kong (certainly in Asia).

IIRC the Zippy R and H are China and Taiwan maybe, K's are Korea. Different 'grades' of their battery line-up. I'm no expert, but it's something like that...

I had a run in with HobbyCity a while back, took my money and disappeared and the batteries have STILL never come back into stock. At 5 weeks I lost my patience and starting asking for updates and at 6.5 weeks I was finally able to get my money back (which was pre-paid and in their hands all that time). The moral of the story there is sign yourself up for their email notification of when THE item(s) you're looking for come back in stock and POUNCE when they do; don't pre-pay for back ordered items as they may never come back into stock and HobbyCity is quite happy to keep your money in the meantime. Their communications to customers is non-existent so don't expect any 'service;' but this is the price you pay for their selection and super cheap prices.

Order what they have in stock and you're all set, that the moral of the story. And if stock says - 41 that means they have 41 units back ordered; be sure you're not seeing any 'back ordered' notices before you hit that last button to purchase...

Happy Flying!

Good advice there Drew - I've ordered lots of stuff from UH and some has arrived very quickly - some took so long that I forgot that I had even ordered it and ordered from someone else - the stuff (some servos) turned up eventually, but MUCH later. Personally I like to see the best in people and assume that they are just very very busy and "victims of their own success"

Found these over at A-Main Hobbies, 3000 mah Pro-Tek's for $50 weighing in at only 246 grams; they're only 20C but... The Zippy-k 3000 mah is 295 grams so almost two ounces heavier, eeks; cheaper perhaps but once you add in shipping from Hong Kong to the total perhaps the overall cost difference isn't that great AND you have no guarantees or customer service with HobbyCity.

Another thought is these Pro-Teks have a 50% off 'crash guarantee so these are a 'thought' at least in the process; anyone had direct experience with these batteries?

MikeJ: I've been told by folks from that part of the world that it's a 'cultural thing;' the merchants in Hong Kong and parts surrounding consider a sale a sale, if they've got your money they'll eventually ship you something but they don't want to deal with you in between. Customer Service is non-existent (or nearly so) and only comes into play where you have people from other parts of the world involved in their operations. That's just the way they operate, good luck trying to get any response from their websites or phone numbers; maybe it's different in Europe but here in the US I stopped counting the amount of times I attempted to call them during THEIR business hours and got nothing.

And hey, I'm not bashing any cultures or making blanket statements here; I'm sure they are some VERY conscientious business folks over there and they all are providing great stuff at really cheap prices so if you don't care about 'service' and the stuff is in stock you're probably all set. Just hope you don't have any problems or delays because good luck if you do!

Now back to batteries, what else you guys got? ;)

What do they cost down in God's Country? Can you order from Hobby City and not have any tax or import penalties? What do you all normally pay?

Hey, prices will ultimately do down everywhere as time goes on and the technology proliferates; in the meantime head up to Borneo for vacation and smuggle some back in the country! ;)

Graeme,
No problems with 600 grams of batteries? I picked up a couple 6s1 3200 and they're HUGE @ 570 grams. A pair of KP 3s 2200's is about 400grams.

JE - over 240 flights on my Hurri now with the 2 X 3200's. Yes it is nose heavy, 7 clicks of aft cyclic trim & she hovers great. Either that add some weight to the tail. I've had some weight on the tail but I chose to fly with out it and just trim it level.

I like the 8 min flights.

Cheers
