View Full Version : Inverted Hover, No Throttle!

Helis;

I noticed that my throttle does not kick in until about 1/4 throttle or the blade just don't start to spool up until 1/4 throttle. At 1/4 throttle and above the blades will spool up and the blade pitch works correctly. So with the TRex 450 SE 3D bird, pitch is -13 to +13. But as you advance the throttle the pitch changes up to about -6 pitch before the blades spool up.

So here's the problem.

I want to practice inverted hover. When inverted, the maximum inverted pitch I can get is -6 degrees, after that the blades will spool down. So I lose -7 thru -13 inverted because the blades spool down.

Anyone know how to change this so I can us the full pitch curve without losing the throttle and having the blades spool down?

You need to set your idle up curve the same as a real heli - then it should work

Either that, or leave a linear throttle curve and use the sim's idle-up mode. That's about all I can do with the radio I sim with (Blade CX2 radio).

Ok, its been a while since I messed with this. Where do I change the idle-up curve?

The only place you can adjust curves is in the radio. The only sorts of things you can adjust in the sim are expo and mechanical limits (maximum pitch ranges, etc.). If you choose to use your radio curves (recommended), do not activate idle-up mode in the sim! You'll get strange results. Also, if you need to use expo, set it in the radio, not in the sim.

Yes, hit "3" on your keyboard.

Yes, hit "3" on your keyboard.
...assuming you didn't change the key assignments in the setup. I have idle-up mapped to the "1" key and TH mapped to the "9" key so that they're on opposite ends of the keyboard.

I was able to change the throttle curve on the radio and everything works perfectly. Didn't know it would accept the throttle and pitch curves from the radio.

The sim just sees what the radio channels are telling it, just like the servos and ESC on the real thing (you have to assume that every model in the sim uses mechanical CCPM, though). So, it follows that the sim model should be set up like the real thing. The sim is just as affected by the change in channel behavior induced by the curves as the real thing. From the perspective of the transmitter, the sim's built-in idle-up and throttle hold controls actually change the mechanics of the model and should be avoided unless your transmitter is incapable of having idle-up and throttle hold curves set.
