Just when you think you have your pre flight routine down. Was flying my Rap-50 SE, came out of a loop was cruising just fine and...OH Crap! She went into a left piro which luckily wasn't to bad, and Autoed her down with no damage. The tail pulley retaining pin came loose and shredded the left side of the tail case, and melted plastic around the output shaft bearing. So just a friendly reminder to check your pins. :arggg:

I am faily new to choppers I am flying a RAPTOR 60 with an OS 90 I lost a pin while doing out side loops and autoed safely with no damage there are no hobby shops with in 75 miles of town to get the thin wall brass tubing. so I had a large diamiter shrink tubing and I cut a small piece and captured the pin on the gear shaft this will stop the loss of the pin. it still needs to be checkes on preflights. but I have over fifty flights now with no pin loss.

2nding flipped's response. Don't just check them, do something to prevent them from flying out even if the set screw should come loose. I went with the brass ring approach, but would probably just go the heat shrink route next time (easier)
I've lost one pin, and one pin only please... :-)
Also, remove the bolt from the elevator arm (the one that holds the pitch block bearing in place) and replace it with another that is about 1/4" to 3/8" longer. There are plenty of threads inside the frame spacer. Myself and one other raptor 60/90 pilot had that thing back out in flight. (yes it got locktit, and both bolts fell out after mild crash damage.)
yep! same here. here is my version in fotos ....if anyone needs it.
The elev arm bolt came off ( locktighted) in the 2rd flight)
Remember to degrease threads before locktight.
and for the shrink tubing, Put a drop or two of cyano glue or else it tends to slide out and touch the casing ( drag and eventually damages the casing)

Thanks for the pictures and the tips for keeping the tail pin in. It never ceases to amaze me, been flying about 18 months now, and I still feel like a NEWB at times. Thanks again to all. :noteworthy

Guys, is this a problem also relating to 90SE?

Yes to both the tail drive pins and the elevator pitch control lever

To add to JimLerch's answer, It is also a concern on the pins holding the bevel gears in the tail assembly, right behind the main gear.

I had this happen too, i found there was metal filings/swarf in the grub screw thread. Check your new tail shafts, even the new one had metal pieces in it, i had to pick them out before installing it!!

Thanks for the pics and advice guys. Sorry for what your lessons cost you, but appreciate the help. I looked over my new-to-me Raptor 30 v1 and don't see where the tail pin is that you are talking about. Before it comes apart and makes itself apparent, could you tell me more where to find it exactly? Also, does the bolt on the Elevator arm bracket need to be changed on the v1 also? TIA, Doc
