I am tryting to see what people are running out there for motors...
Please post your battery cap., run time, motor brand and type and ESC...
I currently run a Scorpion 1210kv motor with a CC80 esc and 3700mAh packs getting around 8 minutes of Fast FF figure 8s and such...no 3d yet but plan on going there...
I would like to find a good place to have both power and efficiency in a good balance so that i do not need to upgrade later...i thought that the Scorpion had good power and efficiency but from another post that i started people are saying that its a bad choice...
also can someone explain what the benifits of having a higher or lower kv rating are...
thanks...

also...are any pilots running a hacker motor? if so how is it in power and runtime...

Right now I havethe plastic frame version with an almost full metal head, I use the Z20-980 motor swinging 515 cf blades...15t pinion, 20 OWB, 42t/61t stock gears. I use 2200, 2500, 3200, and 3300 packs. (went a little nuts buying lipos) (6 sets)..
I am pushing the heli much harder now with light 3D and safely can get 4, 5, and 6 -7 min
respectively for the above packs. I run between 1800 and 2100 rpm HS...
I just purchased a Z30 for my CF all metal head version and hope to gear it with a 13t pinion and get 5 -6 of insane 3D power....I probably don't need it as I can not outfly what I have now.....But it's only money...and I can't take it with me... (and I'm getting closer by the day !!)
When i first started flights were a lot longer, but as you get familiar with the heli and push harder...the amps really go up and the time comes down. With all the sets i have I usually get about 35 mins of solid flying....and 6 hours of charging !!
Great heli...and I can actually see it....

i have a old school stock plastic kit and my upgrades include
cnc grips
cnc yoke
cnc elevator arm
cnc swash guide, align tail hub, rocket city links, gaui performance paddles... i believe thats all
i run the z30 motor with align 75amp esc powered by 2 3cell zippy 3300s and have 50t gear with 15t pinon at 100% tc i get 2500 rpm and fly for 6 min of hard 3d... i can probably get around 10min of hovering if i lowered the tc and even more by lowering the gear... but 2500 is plenty of rpm for me to do tic tocs all orientations. piro flips. hurricane... and the list goes on lol

The Z30 is what I would recommend 2100 hs for 7 minutes on 3300 packs. 15T,50T,61T and 20-OWB. You can let loose if you need to with 14T and 42T at 2500rpm but your flight time will go down to 5 minutes, not bad though for a great HS.
Can I use the Gaui 50 Amp ESC with the Z30a 1110?
thanks

Plastic frame, plastic head, various sets of 2200maH 25C batteries, stock ESC, Z20A980, 14T pinion, 50T primary, 20T OWB. I get about 7.5 minutes of flying figure 8 circuits

I used the stock 50a ESC for the first 100 flights, stock motor, z20 and z30, even with 8sA123.

Thanks guys...this really helps...seems the z30 is the choice amongst the pilots here...ill wait to see if any other suggestions pop up...thanks again...

I use the other motor of choice. Z20a-980... it's not a power house motor spinning the blades at incredible head speeds with blade snapping 3D performance... but it does fly nice and smooth for me and my flying ability.

has anyone tried a hacker or seen one run...which one is recommended if any...
They are supposed to be a good high quality motor and i was curious if they have enough power for this application...
thanks in advance...

I fly the Hacker A40 10 8pole heli motor, delrin gears, with 23t pinion, 68t first gear, 20OWB and stock main gear. 3300mAH 6 cell Lipos, awesome power and 7 min of FFF, loops flips and circuits.
Really the combo for my flying, if you want all out 3D use a Z30 1100kV, 14t pinion stock gears and she then flies for 6 min.

Thanks for your input about the hacker motor...is it the "L" or the "S" series motor...if anyone else uses one please let me know...thanks again...

Sorry, full specs on motor is Hacker A40 -10L 8 pole heli motor, 1100kV, 1100W. Real powerhouse and lots of torque, so likes to be geared on the high side.

Thanks for your response...what gearing are you running with this motor...glad to hear its a good strong motor and you still get 7 minutes out of it...thanks again

I have used the RCP h/18, properly geared this is a really good performer for 4 minute flights on 2500mah 6s lipo packs or 8sA123's. I really loved this motor, mine would take anything thown at it, but just not too efficeint on 8s A123 Kv too high, 6s lipo it performed well.
now I am running the Scorpion 1000kv on 8s A123 and i can get 4.5 minutes of hard flying but the scorpion just doesn't have the grunt for the 550, I am going to put this in my HDX 500. Personally I can't recomend the scorpions for the 550 from what Ihave seen or read.
I have a Neu on the way so I will give reports on it next week!

My H18 had awsome power until it done burned up. It was an amp hog though.
Of the Scorpion HK3026 series, the 1400 is rated for the highest power, 1680 Watts. That's more than the H18 (1500W). The 1000 and 1210 are rated for 1300W and 1365W, so they are going to be a little stronger than a Z20, but not as powerful as a H18. The 1600 & 1900 are really to high kV and would be very hard to gear. Plus they are not as powerful as the 1400.
I should have my 1400 today and I will try to get it setup tonight. I'm gearing it 19/68 w/ the 20T OWB. Headspeed should be around 2500. I think an 18T would be better, but RevCo doesn't have that pinion out yet. I'll probably use the throttle curves or governor to get 2400.

I've the HK3026-1600 and I really like it. It's at least as powerful as a Gaui 1,5kW and consumes around 1/3 less than a Gaui. I'm using it with 7s A123. There's a log with 6s Lipo where the HK3026-1600 was logged with about 1,6kW. But the real power-motor are Z30s. But really dangerous for Hurricane gears :) I'll test mine soon...

Thanks again guys...keep me posted...I think I will end up with a hacker if I can get confirma(ion it will fit under the canopy...the "l" series motors are really long and I'm not sure if they will fit...are the "s" series motors just as strong?
