Why,s every one gone quiet, got my kit Sat 7th June, built by Wednesday with the help from Bob's videos.
I have to say a big thanks to Bob, I've only been flying 18 mnths and as we all know it's mind numbing how much info there is to take in and ive always found it easier to be shown what to do rather than read up on it, he's helped through a trex 450, 600e, 600n and now my Auora build with those vids, so a big thanks Bob.
Any ways love the way the Auora goes together head spindle setup is a little fiddley with that rubber tube and the c-clips but with the right tools (c-clip pliers, soapy water)no biggy other than that she's great.
First test flights were with 690 tst v-blades, and my YS sr engine out of my synergy, found the accuracy amazing she tracks round loops with no imput neccessary to keep her straight but did find it bogged a little at the top of some moves, so I switched to my Raddix stickbanger 710's, this really livened her up and suited my flying style,(throw her around like an idiot) much better :),
The only thing I'am struggling with is the tail fitted with a Spartan Gyro, and a JR 8900g spectrum gain set to 47% and 16mm out on the horn, i getting a small amount of tail judder in fast backwards flight which suggests to me to lower the gain but at the same time in a tail down travelling tic toc while looking at the disk as she travels right to left shes nose is trying to turn to the left, this is probably due to bad pitch inputs but its not something i have had trouble with my 600n.
So 5 flight and probably the first flight that I thought , don't think about the risk just have fun with it I was doing a chaos while pumping the rudder, you know looks like the heli is doing a chaos under a strobe light, well I guess the tail gears did not like it and I lost the tail, put her in throttle hold and tried to bring her in on an inverted auto but lost the head speed, went in head first from about 20ft.

Suprisingly good on the crash inspection, no blade damage, main gears ok, just main spindle bent and broke the tail boom clean off at the boom mount so tail boom, torq drive and rear tail gears will need replacing.

Now although Iknow it was the rear tail gears stripping that caused the crash I can't honestly say that I checked the gear mesh since the buid, so some play might have occured during the first few flights and I know I did not lube the gears like I am supposed too, So we are talking 3 evenings flying with a total 5 flights.

Well I will rebuid and go again, hopefully lesson learnt I will check and lube those gears each flight for a while and see what occurs.

Does this make me the first non team pilot to crash :)

Sorry to hear of your bingle,

how ironic you have been flying for 18mths and have had and crashed an Aurora. I have been on a waiting list for longer than you have been flying and I still dont have one nor are they in our country yet.

Wierd man :-)

Jody, I feel your pain I had that aurora cash fund burning a hole in my pocket for some time, I pre ordered mine just 2 mnths after I started flying.

Need any good model shops out there the family and I have been looking into emigrating to OZ for some time, just need to set up a good working business to get the visa.

I would also suggest putting some decelleration gain in the Spartan, about 4 or 5 bars is fine.

Sorry to hear about the crash though.

I will do Jason thanks fo that, any other setup titbits for the spartan you can through my way? I would love to be able to get it to hold during tail down traveling tic tocs without it hunting during fast backwards.

Attached is a picture of my tail set up in Non HH mode on the spartan, and my Spartan Aurora File.

Try these two things, and let me know. All depends on what wheel for the rudder you are using which will affect what gain your seeing. You may have to adjust some parameters for your servo type, but thats the setup I have on mine.

What tail servo are you running? Right now I am currently running a 20mm arm, and have a gain of 37% via travel adjust. Possibly moving to a bigger arm may help you out?

Try these guys if you are running a 8900G

Did I understand correctly that you also flew a Synergy? If so, can you give us your thoughts on comparring the performance of the Synergy and Aurora?

I would like to know that too!

Thanks Jason, will try that and yes running a 8900g.

My thoughts on the synergy vs aurora, hmmm

Well my Synergy was a bit of a hanger queen, I was always afraid of crashing it due to the cost in parts always electing to fly the trex 600n instead, but recently flew in the clubman uk comp and so wanted to give the synergy a go becuase of the 90 size being a bit more impressive at a comp. Bit of a mistake all my training had been on a trex so did'nt fly the Synergy as well as I should have.

On building the Aurora much better machine to work on and it has lots of shiny bits too, have you ever tried to get an engine out of a Synergy, major issue everytime I have had to do it that hex coupler is always welded to the shaft.
My Synergy had all the hyperdive upgrades so all told the airframe alone cost way more than the Aurora.

Flight wise I never felt comfortable with the Synergy always seemed to be doing something quirky but the Aurora flies and hovers so smooth I know now what people mean when they say something feels locked in.

I intend to fly the Aurora alot now and so I will be able to give a better view in the future but so far Iam very very happy.

Ok Jason it seems the Jr servo's I use 8915uk version of 8917 come with a set of horns very similar to the ones in the pic, with the ball 20mm from centre, so I will try that.
I the pic of your tail it looks like you have some pitch on your tail blades, is this the case? I think it might just be the pic so are they actually at 0 deg.

sorry scrap that last comment they do have pitch on them, but you also have the pitch slider arm at 90 deg, Mine is offset slightly when i put that much pitch on the balde.

Yea, try setting your pitch slider arm at 90 degrees. That does help out.

I remember when I was flying my 600N for the first time the tail wouldnt hold(611), so I landed and set it up in normal mode....2 turns on the linkage made a BIG difference...and the pitch slider arm was at 90 degrees ;).

cheers for the help, Got her sorted out tail is holding much better on the first flight after setting it up in normal mode. Unfortunately clutch gave out when I tried to start on the second flight. Think it must have caught the cluth liner as that was stripped from the bell.
I think I have been cursed by the heli god lol
