So what blades are you all using, where did you get them and with what combination/setups?

Stock you get the Gaui woodie 500mm, I've heard 515, 530, and 550 blades mentioned, SABs and poking around you can find various options out there from many groups I've never even heard of so what you got?!?

I'm a rookie so I'll be spinning Gaui 500 Woodies for the time being and there don't seem to be too many options at 500mm either (let alone made of Wood!). Obviously the 475, 500 and 550 Gaui blades but...

I see the Gaui 500 Carbons here, but nothing else besides woodies:

http://www.readyheli.com/Main_Rotor_Blades_s/41.htm

Can we twist someone's arm at Radix/Youngblood and have them make us some?!? ;)

Found this thread:

RCP 500's, not a great write up even here so...

MS 515 Carbons:

Does the 550 Hurricane use 3 or 4 mm by the way?

MAH 500 Carbons:

Huh, probably best to create a table based on size; this is getting confusing!

Here's a big list of all types of blades at A Main:

http://www.amainhobbies.com/index.php/cPath/2_816_844

Chime on in, it would be great to know from personal experience to NOT buy Brand X, Y or Z and just stick with the a specific brand.

Happy Flying!

So far I have used Go-Quick 515 blades...(2 sets) they balanced good and fly good..

and I set of Helimax 530 blades. They also balanced good and I only flew them about 5 times....

I am not into hardcore 3D so I am not an expert on blades. I just don't like paying $90 for blades I may eventually (will) break.

I never flew the woodies...but hear they are OK for beginners.

It's very hard to find any 500 blades that are reasonable.

I have also started to do autos and both blades above worked very nicely for that.

I was thinking of getting these http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6593&Product_Name=TIG_500mm_Carbon_Fiber_Z-Weave the price is great for a 500mm CF blade.. only one review on them so far.. I know they've sold a lot of them, but no one is telling the rest of us if they're worth it or not.

I've only run the RCP 500mm blades on the hurris and they work fine. I have 4 sets of them and they aren't a perfect fit and finish (cosmetically perfect) blade. If you are into perfect "looking" blades you may want to spend a little (or a lot) more for "pretty" ones. Functionality wise, the RCP's are fine though (nobody sees them when they are in the air lol) and all 4 sets were perfectly balanced and were without any structural defects.

The price was great IMO and I have no need to shop elsewhere for blades at my skill level since i am no where near maxing out the capabilities of these blades lol.

Also, totally agree with what mjdee14 said, they will break at some point so i'm not shelling out more $ for the little bit of difference the higher end blades make.

*The 500mm woodies fly fine as well.. have done lots of things with them.. even tic tocs at 2100rpm with them and they survived. :)

yep.. no one sees them in the air... that's one reason I was thinking of getting the TIG blades from hobby city.. a little cosmetic imperfection is no big deal.. as long as the blade is structurally sound. and at $45 a set... cheaper than RCP

I only have had experience with RCP2 500mm, heard about the original RCP had problems. RCP2 are pretty nice and balanced well, specially the new ones that are pre-painted white. However I am back with the woodies to keep the cost down as I am trying do things that I am not used to. You can do mild 3d with the woodies at 2100 rpm, just don't push it of course. Woodies can do 3D but it wont have the same pop as carbon blades.

SAB 530mm... much more profile than anything else. But needs a lot of power. Great blade for autoroto training (quit heavy).

Here we go:
http://www.sab-compositi.it/english/mainRotor.htm
Just search for 530... I've the second on in the list, totally white. I had a comparison image with Blattschmied CF475, Gaui woodies 500mm and SAB 530... I'll try to find it!

Here's the image... the SAB Blade has 105g. Doesn't sound that much, thought it was more :) btw sound is great... even with a few rpms.

52.00 Euro...at todays exchange rate is almost $81... for the money, they had better be real good blades.. and that's the price for the solid white glass/carbon blades

the CF ones are 67.00 Euro which is about $104

Hehe... the other side, I enjoy buying in Dollar-shops :)
My blades weren't that expensive where I bought them. But that doesn't change anything for someone who pays in Dollar. A V-blade in this size would be cool...
[Edit] Just saw readyheli sells SAB... but just found a small one -> http://www.readyheli.com/MSH51062_SAB_425_main_blades_CF_p/msh51062.htm

Another (expensive) option would be the rotortech blade -> http://www.readyheli.com/CN265166C_RotorTech_515mm_CARBON_FIBER_MAIN_BLADES _p/cn265166c.htm
At least specs sound promising and blades look cool. Maybe someone tested that blade?
Another blade with similar specs to the SAB but much cheaper -> http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJPH9&P=6#tech
But as previous blade... don't know about quality!

find me a job making that pays a lot of Euros and I'll move :D (Hmm wonder if Philips in Vienna is hiring.. they currently own 70% of the company I work for)

Phillips isn't one of the places I would want to work for... the only news one hear from there is that they don't need all their people working there :(
Anyway, SAB are nice blades, but not worth that much money... I think there are enough other (cheaper) options.

Has anybody tried the Maverikk range of blades?

http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=802100
or
http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=802250

Seems like good compromise between quality and cost?

http://www.heliproz.com/products.asp?dept=70

I know people that fly the Mavrikk's on T-Rex 450s and really like them. Some cool options in the 550 range but that's about it for the Hurricane, but some nice looking $17 Woodies at 550 too! Now if everyone would only make this stuff at the 500 or at least 515mm range, arrrghhh!

So the only place I could find the Go-Quick 515mm blades was here, anyone else seem to carry them? Not that it really matters to me, they're in Pennsylvania and I'm in Ohio and the price is reasonable but it would be NICE to find a single company to be dealing with instead of getting parts from here, there and everywhere!!! They also carry SAB's too but not cheap, phew!

http://www.quickheli.com/blades.asp

What about Tail Blades? What is the 'official size' for the tail blades on a 550 Hurricane? A Main lists the K&B blades at 84mm as direct replacements and they would be cool to get since you can mix and match colours; I like to run one white and one black just so the tail rotor disk isn't quite so LOUD, in this case maybe one orange and one black.

Will T-Rex 600's at 95 mm work, a bit too big? 500 T-Rex's are only what, 68mm so probably a bit too small...

Here's A-Main's 550 Hurricane "Hop Up List:" Not sure how accurate or 'good' all these items might be but there looks like there's some potentially good stuff in there

Hi!
SAB has some nice CF tail blades. But the same price problem for $-payers. I tried the Trex 600 tail blades, a "little" bit too big :) piro rates are insane with these blades. Anyway, I use the 600 tail holders and they work really well! You get a few cm more which adds just a little bit. Another cool option here in the Euro-countries are Blattschmied main blades (515mm) with tail blades. You get 50% off on the tail blades if you take both...
The neon tail blades from the link above looks cool.. price is nice too :)

Im just about to fly for the first time with the Trex 600 carbon tail blades

will let you know how i get on.

I have raptor hub and grips on there too as they are of superior design to the std ones in my opinion.
I would have bought the rex 600 thrusted tail blade grips but they were out of stock everywhere in my region when i bought them.
