I'd love to jump to 6s1 packs but I'd need the CF frames and I'd rather not come up with a hack to hold a 6s pack on the plastic frame.

So what should I go with for now?

EDIT: After seeing I can get a 6s pack on this bad boy (thanks mysticmead) I'm going to get a 3 KP 6s 3200's or maybe try the outrage 6s 3700. The KP 6s packs are lighter than 2- 3s 3200 packs.

Looks to me if money is no object....and since you didn't show the costs...I would go with the FP 3200's.....weighs less, more power 30c, and 2 mm smaller in height.

I have never flown either the KP or the FP but I would go with 30c over 25c if $$$ was not an issue....if it was and the KP were much cheaper then I might go that way.

I fly 2200, 2500, 3200 30c and 3300 packs....

they all have their place....but I do like the larger packs for a little more flying time. The 2500's were my first packs and for 5 mins of fun they work very good.

I set my timer for 4, 5, and 6 min accordingly for the above packs....then check with my Eagletree and maybe make another pass around the field if I have the juice left.

I have also heard very good things about both the FP and KP packs

Cool! and then I could run some KP 6S 3200's (http://www.readyheli.com/Kong_Power_6s1p_22_2v_3200mAh_25C_Lipo_Battery_p/kp-3225-6.htm)

Pretty heavy at 570grams which is less than 2-KP 3s3200's and cheaper..
Just need a TP1010 charger and decent ps. lol.

JE I use 2 X 3s1p Kong power packs (6s). I have 2 sets that I bought when I got the Heli. I have not used any others but I can personally vouch for the quality in the KP packs. In the early stages (first 20 cycles) I didn't really now how to look after them so I flew till the HS dropped off. This was taking nearly 100% out of the packs. I was putting 3000 - 3100 mah back.

Once I knew better I started to limit the flight time and kept them below 2700 mah usage for probably the next 60 cycles. Since I have had the Z20 I am keeping them below 2500mah. The packs have just gone past 120 cycles, they are still going fine. Only just getting a voltage drop off on one set at the end of a flight. But I am still getting 8 minute flights.

One set in particular has been in all my major crashes and survived the impacts without dramas. They are very robust packs, they tolerate abuse well and consistently provide good flight times. I am very happy with them & have ordered another set.

Cheers
Graeme

I have been flying my Trex 500 as well as my Hurricane 550. I just have to say, I like flying my 6s packs rather than 2x 3s packs in series. You would think they give the same power but from my experience the 6s pack wins. I have packs from Outrage, FP, Zippys. The zippy 6s 3300 wins over the zippy 2x 3s 3300. I think all the extra wire and connectors add resistance to the flow of current.

I even tried 2 parallel packs of 6s packs of 2200, making it 4400 total and that is absolute power, had to bring down the throttle for that set. I am able to do this as I have the CHP frame. Believe or not, my two 2200 Outrage 6s packs in parallel is lighter than my 8sA123.

It makes sense that a 6s would win in power over 2x3s for the reasons you stated, but capacity is still capacity and 6400mAh beats 4000mAh by quite a bit and the weight difference is next to nothing.. and the price of 6s bricks are.. OUTRAGE..ous heheh :)

How about a pair of 4s packs? :YeaBaby:
KP4s1p 3200 (http://www.readyheli.com/Kong_Power_4s1p_14_8v_3200mAh_25C_Lipo_Battery_p/kp-3225-4.htm).

ouch 800grams total. maybe not.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, a single 6s pack is lighter and cheaper than 2 3s packs of the same capacity.

So I ended up ordering the CHP CF battery tray
and a KP 6s 3200 pack from readyheli.
A MaxPro X-6 charger with 2 AirThunder 3s 2200's fro RC-TEK.

I hope I get a fair amount of air time with the 6s pack.
I'll buy another pack when I can afford one.

the FP evo30's are some really good cells.

Having read your comment , I am seriously considering going the 6S2P route . Would the standard Gaui 50Amp ESC handle this ? What flight times can I expect - ballpark ? Any negatives with this setup - not doing 3D so weight is not a big problem and the 3S 3700 is not a lot lighter than the 6S 2200

I am using 2 x 3S1P 3700 ( series) at present but these lipos are scarce and expensive here I can get a 6S 2200 for about the same price as a 3S 3700 ( Outrage )
I have the Z20 980KV motor

I don't see where it would make any difference to the ESC.....it doesn't know what you have hooked up to it.....

The motor is going to draw whatever it wants...so that won't change....

If you can fit the two bricks under the canopy then go for it...you'll have 6s2P 4400 22v

Minutes wise....it's always hard to tell....depends on blades, gearing, pinion, etc....if your just into gentle flying I would say 10 -12 min or more....is easy to reach....real gentle maybe 15 min or more. Just a guess

I often fly with 4100 quite often and I can manage about 9-12 mins depending on a couple things.

Interestingly they wont fit on the carbon frame but fit on the Plastic frame with some mounts i have made.

they are too wide to fit between the lower frames

Picture is of 3300 cells on my carbon mounts but you can see the space available for the slighly wider 4100's
3300 fit on the carbon frame nicely

Well I trial fitted some Megaforce 4S 4000 lipos - about the same width and length as the Outrage 6S 2200 , but about 35mm longer. They fitted inside the canopy . So I reckon I'd go with the 6S 2200. I have the plastic frame but can make the mounts out of PC board - no flat CF available nearby !

Thanks for the photos, Wazzer
