View Full Version : Thinking about a Knight 3D

I'm looking at the Knight 3D as a possible new heli. I've noticed that there are a handful of places here in the states that sell kits and parts. The parts prices seem to be quite good. I've been reading through the forum and basically just want to know if there is anything in particular I should look out for? Any tips you all have for me? What about the throttle relocation kit? I'm not a huge fan of having the tail servo on the boom, but I'm curious to know how well the smaller servo works on the throttle...

Thanks

The knight3d is a very good heli. You will not go wrong. Front relocation kit is good to balance the c.g. specially if you are using 2S lipos. I use Hitec hs82mg fo the throttle. They are very fast (0.1sec@6.0volts) but they are not digitals. You will notice your idles will vary slightly(centering not that great) but in the air it works flawlessly. The NEW hitec hs5082mg will be out soon and should cure the problem.

I think you should buy one Shane.
Its a decent helicopter. They fly awesome. And they look good.
Everyone knows, that if Dood has one, they should have one too.

Something like the HiTec HS81 or Futaba 9602 or 9650 works pretty good for the throttle.

It's hard to argue with that logic. ;)

Thanks for the replies guys. Gives me something to think about.

What paddles and tail blades are you all running?

Stock paddles - They are part of what makes the Knight fly as well as it does ! Tail blades provided are plastic and would recommend CF 92-95mm tail blades.

stock and stock tails, Gohbee 620 mains.
600's are faster, but the 620 make it auto like a 90. :)

Do the newest kits come with the new, sleeker canopy? The older one is a bit on the ugly side, but I like the newest one.

The milk jug canopy comes with the kit, you have to buy the painted F/G one separate.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm trying to decide between this and the belt-driven T-Rex. I'm leery about the T-rex due to the QC problem Align seems to have.

Do yourself a favor and buy the Knight 3D - I have owned and flown the Trex 600 both electric and Nitro Pro and Sport. They do not even come close to the performance and durability of the Knight. It will be money well spent I assure you.

I just sold my T-Rex see my post in the rex forum related to parts that do not fit on a heli which had no crash so far if you missed it you can see the video here: http://video.helinet.ch/play.php?vid=86

No issues with my knight so far.

Well, I think I'm about ready to get myself one. The bleach bottle canopy that comes with the heli is the newer, sleeker shape. Parts can be found at a handful of places are and are very reasonable. I want a heli that flies great and will hold up and not fall apart on me. The Trex scares me in that regard. I was looking at the Vibe 50, but its a bit too much for me at this time (price wise). It seems the Knight 3D is what I'm looking for.

I was thinking of getting the tail servo relocation kit and would plan to use either a Hitec HS-81 or a Futaba 9650 for throttle. Good choices? I already have the Hitec but I would have to buy the Futaba if I went that route.

I really like the CF Canpoys due to ease of painting, even as thin as they are but man what a great Heli right out of the box. The Only upgrade I would recomend is the Metal belt pulley for the tail case on the 3D. That's IT!!
I love My 3d!!!:YeaBaby:

You'll be happier with the Knight 3D... Great heli.'s.... Though the K3D dosent really need anyupgrade's their more of a convienece ... The F. tail relocation kit is a pretty nice upgrade and help's if you're having balance issue's. I havent really had wny problem's though as I run Fromeco 5200 battery's in them. I know alot of prople are using the HS-81's I run a hs-65hb in most of mine and never have had a problem. I mount them where you mount the elec. on and off switch. But since you already have the HS-81 I'd just go with it.

I have the K&B tail's on mine along with Rotortech or Radix blade's... I'm gonna try some other's out but just havent decided what to try next... Might try those Gohbee's out.

The canopy I agree the newer style is very nice looking. I prefer it as well.

Buy the K3D put it together and fly... Buy the Rex 600 put it together do a few upgrade's Blade grip's,swash, chassis braces,etc.... fly it... get slop.. buy new part's... start all over again and repete... the rex's are pretty nice heli I've had both 600N (pro & sport) their 600E, 450's, and 500's. Bought a K3D to try flew it about 5-6 flight's and sold off my Align's... only one I have now is the 500 which is on the way outthe door as well.

If you want the newer style canopy or F. tail kit give shoot Wes at Modefo's a E-mail and he'll do you good...

Damn you Wayne, I did just that!!!! hehehe.....Thanks!

Just thought I'd put in my $.02 for Enahs.....
I just got my new Knight 50 3D, and I'm telling you, besides the Aurora, this is the nicest damn heli I've ever seen! It goes together in a snap and is super high quality for the $$. Not only that, but I can't wait to be rid of my Align stuff. They were good to start out on, but I'm over it and would rather have a good, quality bird in the hangar.
I can't even begin to thank everyone for talking me out of the 600N and I am definately happy to be part of the small, yet dedicated group of Knight supporters here in the U.S.! :Bang:YeaBaby::banana

I was also considering getting a knight 50 but what's the difference between the Knight 50 and the knight 50 3d kits ?

eyeflyhelis
06-16-2008, 12:23 PM
knight 50 can be either a knight 50 sport or knight 50 3d.
sport has 6mm head and is all plastic. 3d (aka k3d) is all g-10 and metal parts (also available in carbon fiber)
sport flies better than any raptor unless you spend hundreds on it and then its still better
k3d flies better and must be toned down for most pilots in stock form.

thanks for the replay. From what you said and what I've read i think I'll be going with a Knight 50. It will be my first nitro heli so i really want something that's going to be dependable and that I won't have to work on a lot just to get it running good.

first heli:

mine was first Nitro.. simple and easy to setup.. and once setup.. fly's well.. then when you used to it and all the other heli's are gathering dust.. you can start fine tuning everything

ps: look at RR forum.. i posted lots of setup questions and most where answered on there.
