Hi folks,
I had a thought and was wondering if anyone tried it. But I've read a few threads about problems with fuel lines and possible fire, and wrapping them up with a fire retardant material etc.

But has anyone tried a metal fuel line going from the tanks to the solenoids? I'm pretty sure brake lines from a car would work, and you can buy benders, straight line, fittings etc at any auto store. You can also get fancy and buy braided brake lines and anodized fittings.

Just a thought.

I think steel braided flex line would look awesome too.

The thread I think your talking about was Lou's. When he crashed, the tank broke free and the line was pulled off the tank and let fuel run into the exhaust.
If the tanks could be more secure, and/or if the line was harder to pull off the tank, that would certainly help. Of course with a hard enough crash, anything can break/pull apart.

Something Lou did was to take the lines out of the brackets so (God forbid) if he crashes again, and a tank breaks free, the line is more apt to stay attached to the tank fitting. The covering is to help prevent the line from melting if it hits the exhaust. The steel braid line would do the same and look cool as well.

I think Ron was working on hard steel lines, but I may be wrong. I know it was talked about, but it may have been a phone conversation instead of a thread or post.

Yes I looked at some steel brake lines and opted not to tried and thread into the valves as that would destroy them in a crash. One option would be to do steel to tygon and then into the festo's but I ahve decided to remain with the original design and attempt NOT to crash.

Not crashing is always a good plan

Maybe something like the break away fittings they have at gas stations to prevent leaks when someone drives off with the nozzle in their tank?

how about a small Halon Firex bottle with brake away fittings running in pairs with brass fuel lines, like on full scale...If fuel line brakes Firex line brakes and dumps the bottle? Just my 2c
