Hi guys

Last weekend I had an accident as I was currying my bride and joy to the field, I have stumble :Slapand drop the heli resulting to a bended tail boom . As I was heading back to the house for the necessary repairs :DOH I saw on fellow in the field currying his Trex450 in an aluminum carrying case.

http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=1722

I though :thinking that’s useful and as with everything else, I had to get one  for my hurricane 550.

After a short internet research during this week at the usual shops, I have manage to only to find the following, relative good case, which exactly fits the Trex 500.

http://www.helihobby.com/html/trex_500_helicopter_3d.html#PARTHH6328

I know that hurricane's length is around 1060mm and compare to Trex 500 (850mm) is longer, therefore the above case would not fit the hurricane.:arggg:

Is there any of you out there  know where to get a currying case for the hurricane

Thanks
Dimitris

I've looked for something similar also - some people recommend hard Golf bag holders for transporting golf clubs on aeroplanes - the closest that I have found to a case is the RC-Capsule tote bag http://www.rc-capsule.com/ you can get them on ebay - but beware, one of the sellers is RC-Expert :mad:

I have been thinking about a case too. I have seen guys with a soft bag for their Trex 600's, but I don't like the idea of a soft bag. I take the Hurri on holidays with us so the idea of a hard protective case does appeal. I was thinking I'll have to make a plywood case myself. Just another project!!

Building to the custom hurricane spec is a good idea, but the use of plywood I think is not appropriate. I also don't like the idea of a soft bag as there are not protecting parts like the fly bar. You see I travel a lot by plane I would like to curry the helli with me.

have a look at these.didn't check the prices but have a feeling they are scarily expensive.but waterproof shockproof bombproof etc etc.the guys at work are always building roadcases for specialized equipment using the smooth or dimpled aluminum sheet, with aluminum extrusion
with a slot in it that you cut to length then slid the sheet into.then you have rounded corner pieces that sit over the whole corner and screw or pop rivet on.they come out very sturdy and reasonably priced.i'll try and find a link for the bits

Really like the look of the Helli Hobby case for the trex500 good price too.
http://www.helihobby.com/html/trex_5...tml#PARTHH6328

does anyone know who the manufacturer is?

Maybe we can petition them to make a case for our Hurry's

The Pelican cases are perfect just expensive like $400USD!!

Just ordered a heli bag (30-50 size) from Mick Charles models, looks really good. Hard plastic base and padded sides, no need to remove blades and has a draw string assembly over the boom. Looks like a big lollipop! Pick it up next Tuesday so I will post pics then!

Hmmm.. I have some plywood I could use to make a box.. then a few layers of fiber glass..remove the plywood and add foam... Hmmmm I'm a firm believer that I can make anything if I really wanted too... even made my own poker table..
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h119/mysticmead/poker_table/DCP_2000.jpg casino grade table for a fraction of the cost.. ($1500 to buy one $250 to make one)

Hey Mike, not sure on the price yet (in the catalogue at Mick Charles it was shown as £41 but it depends on his price when it arrives, incidently, the trade price was also shown there...£21!!)

A picture of it is in this site

I will post the cost when I pick it up on Tuesday

I have one of those bags - for my (sold) Raptor 50. It's the .30/.50 sized bag. I have never put my EP550 in it, because I 'thought' the bag would be too big. Will try it today though, and maybe take some photos.

The bag for the Raptor 50 use was fantastic. The only problem I had was that the flybar (When the blades are bent back and in their blade holder, connected to the boom) at the front pints up at maybe 10... 20 degrees. That touched the top of the bag, and there was, albeit a small amount, of downward pressure of the paddle. I was always worried that over time, this may start to bend my flybar down a bit.

But JB, see what you think. Maybe with a .30 in there, it will be a lot better.

Thanks Cralis, I wont be able to try my Hurri in the bag for a couple of weeks, I am buying the bag here (UK) and my bird is there (Sabah). Will let people know how it fits once I get the two together. My Hurri spends quite a lot of time in the car and quite often gets hot and bounced around. I am hopeful the padded bag will give it some protection. I also have to take it from my apartment down 7 floors in the lift so it will prevent bumps and scratches along the way.. We will still be looking at the 'hard box' option with our friends aluminium welder and another contact who does the fibreglass work on my boat. Ideally I would like to get it into the boot of my Heli Hauler at some stage

OK, here's mine being bagged. Note: I have the long Boom... I have a Trex600E flybar... I have Raptor 50 skids.

So, all in all, it does fit fine. My only worry, which I had with my Raptor 50 living in it, was the fact that the fly bar at the front takes some stress. Probably not a problem...

I just noticed you have a 50 sized blade holder on yours. The same I had on my Raptor! And the flybar doesn't pint up as high in the front. This may be a help in your case. In the mean time, I'm going to find my blade holder!

Great Photos mate thanks, now I can se what's coming! Anything has got to be better than strapping it into the back seat and letting the sun beat down on it all day. I have the short boom which may make a little difference, thanks again

I thought about the custom plywood case. And then I thought some more. And thought and thought. Realized how long it would take me to build the case I wanted and then I went out and bought a storm case from plasticase.com. Fits like a glove with plenty of room for batteries and tools. Model 3320. With the foam insert. Cost a bundle but it is bomber. Built like a pelican case. I don't worry about it raining when it is in the back of my truck.

Plus my deltoids get a great workout loading and unloading it from the bed of the truck. Up and over. Not that lower the tail gate sissy stuff. I make sure I switch arms.

Hey superstix, thank for the info !
Do you have the short or the long tail boom ?

superstix
06-16-2008, 10:45 AM
The long boom. I also custom fitted a stop to the lid so when it is open it stays up at ninety degrees. Took a few hours. Mounted a little block of wood at the edge of the box and the edge of the lid and then screwed a lid stop to those. Blocks of wood mounted with countersunk and caulked screws from the outside. From Lowe's. With the curved bail.

Works really, really well. I do not worry at all about my Hurri getting bashed or wet during transport. (Only when flying).

wonder if that case would work for a hurri with Trex 600 skids or raptor skids.....
