Just got an old Hawk Sport from a local swap meet, not much to clean up or repair but there was not Gyro or tail servo included. Got a 401 gyro and servo, but not sure where to mount servo. Manual suggests center of heli under main gear, LHS suggested front of heli under previous tail rudder servo location. Anyone have any ggod suggestions?

I've got mine mounted up front on the radio tray (under and slightly offset to the right of the aileron servo). Works great so far, and I feel better having it out of the exhaust mist as compared to the usual location on the aft top frame area. Just set your limits and such before tucking it away in there, as it's a bit hard to get to for adjustments later.

Mounting it in the center doesn't give you any benefit. Mount it somewhere flat, with the least amount of vibration.

I have always mounted mine up front under the canopy - in the same location as Chris.

I too have mounted gyros on the servo tray in the area behind the collective and throttle servos. I also have installed them in front of the mainshaft, between the frames on top of the fan shroud area.

The older Hawk Sport had a designated tray under the mainshaft, but I found too much oil and fuel residue would collect there.

I made a small bracket and mounted mine right behinde the main mast where the boom goes into the upper frame, works fine.
