Correction: Why does my tail seem to stall?

***

I have the HDX450 SE v3.

When I'm in a situation where I want to "command" the heli to turn it sometimes turns about 1/4 way then stop.

Its as though there isn't enough deflection in the tail rotor to to complete the full 360 I demanded of it.

Additionally this might be related but if I jam the throttle full it bogs a little and starts push the tail clockwise until I back off of the throttle.

I have an Align 430xl motor and Align ESC. Lipos are 3S 2100mAh 20C. GY401 plus Futaba S3154 on the tail.

Any thoughts?

Hey, sorry to hear your having trouble. Here's a couple of things to check.
1. hold tail with one hand, Turn main rotor clockwise, if you notice any play or slipping. Then you need to re-locktite your spindle gear that turns the belt.
2. Is your gyro running in the right direction?
3. disconnect your tail from the linkage. see if it binds, or might be bent. Just a little bit of bend (not viewable to the eye) will make it act funny.

hope that helps...

That does sounds like some binding to me. I have a crappy telebee gyro and I was having major problems with it twitching. It turned out that there was too much binding in the linkage and the slider. When I got it nice and smooth all that went away. Since it a crappy telebee I do get a good bit of twist when I pump the collective, but I dont have any problem turning the tail or doing piro's.

Pull the link off the servo and make it feel like butter to move it by hand. Hopefully that helps.

sounds like your batts ain't up to the job and the head is bogging. for the 430XL minimum you want 25C batts. if you kill your headspeed your tailspeed will drop, and won't have enough force to counter the torque from the stalled main rotor.

When I'm in a situation where I want to "command" the heli to turn it sometimes turns about 1/4 way then stop.

ie. in fff? it should still be able to turn, check your headspeed and tail servo and tail pitch travel, what pinion are you using?
