My CCHV85 let the smoke out and done blowed up. Of course I'll send it in to CC to get it fixed. However, in the mean time I'd like to keep flying, so what ESCs work on 6S with the 1500W motor. I may also use this as an opportunity to get a Z30. I only get 4:30 flight times with the Gaui 1500W motor and I'd like to get something with as much power that is just as efficient.

that new scorpion esc that has an integrated switching bec is nice. not too expensive either. http://www.readyheli.com/Scorpion_6_cell_60_Amp_ESC_with_Switching_BEC_p/sw60aesc.htm

I tested various Esc and the one I pretty much like right now is a 80A Jazz. The auto-motor-timing feature works really well. It has a BEC but you should always use a small (just a few hundret mAh) 4-cell as puffer. Governor mode works exceptionally good and it's the only Esc you can run with low throttle values. You get around 200rpms more because of the auto-timing. I'm flying right now with a value of 50%. It doesn't get warm.
I'm using a Scopion 1600kV, used a 1,5kW Gaui before and have a Z30 lying around. But didn't have the time to test it.
The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a real soft-start feature in non-governor mode.And it's quit expensive :(
Another good Esc what I've readd is the Castle Creation Phoenix. Doesn't have a BEC for 6s, but soft-start feature for governor and throttle curve. Setting it up isn't as easy as an Jazz, but there's a video by Bob!

I've heard a lot of good things about the Jazz 80. Hard to find one in the states right now. I was thinking about getting a CC80, but they are hard to find too. The Scorpion would work. I don't need the switching BEC because I'm running an 8V system.
BTW, it was a good thing I was practicing autos on the sim. I pushed over and hammered it into forward flight when it blew. I got it down about 100 yards away without breaking anything. Talk about getting thrown in the deep end of the pool.

Mike.....good going on the auto......do you think you would havebeen able to save it had you not been practicing autos?
I just don't hink many people realize how you have to reduce the pitch and what it takes to really auto in.....It took me a long time to be able to do them on the sim......and was able to do one the first time in real flight....
I urge everyone to practice on the sim...it may just save you $100 or so....

Yeah - that's for sure. I had a couple of things going for me. I had a ton of forward speed and I was pretty low. Unfortunately, I wasn't very close, so it was hard to set it down level. I did bounce it a little, but it didn't tip over.
It turned that I had more time to set it down than I thought I might have. There's a lot of energy in the blades. I'll have to start doing real autos when I get it flying again.
I think I will get a Z30. Just need to get a ESC while the CCHV85 is getting fixed at CC.

congrats on the auto! I practice those every day on the sim... have even done nothng but those for an hour. hopefully the practice has built the muscle memory so I can do one for real if needed.

I really like the 'soft start' on my Rex 450, is there a comparable esc that would have the same option for our Hurri's? Whilst doing a range check on my Rex a while back it started to spool up whilst I was walking away from the radio, I had time to put it on the ground and disconnect the battery before any harm was done! I like the power being delivered under a controlled spool up, helps identify any problems prior to the rapid speed increase and gives me time to get composed before lift off. I also don't thing it does our running gear any good to have a sudden surge of energy such as the pre-existing Gaui esc. Anyone got any suggestions?

That's strange both of my Hurri's use the standard Gaui ESC and they have a very nice soft start

I'm kind of leaning towards the Scorpion 90A ESC with a Scorpion HK 3026-1400 motor. It has the highest output of the series in watts and I have gears for it that will put the head speed where I want it. I'd like to try the Z30 with a CC80 or a Jazz 80, but I can't find either ESC right now.
This is a good time to get the Gaui H18 power sucking motor off the heli and try to increase my flight times. I'm only getting 4:30 with 3200s now.

Me too !....My Gaui 50 a has one of the softest starts i have ever seen...in fact I have to wait patiently until the HS is at full steam before i lift off.....I guess this must be where the different ESC came in...the 3 vs 4 beeps ? :dontknow

My 50a also has a nice soft start.
I think Bob's Gaui 75amp also has a soft start but Bob wants a really soft start like the onne on his 35X esc in his 450V2

my Align 75a has a real nice soft start... so soft I thought something was wrong because when I first gave it throttle it took a half second before it started to spin.. and even VERY slow on spinning up.
I'm also happy with my Align 75a. Comes up real easy.

Upon further inspection, I'm not sure I have a fried ESC. I pulled the motor and the wires inside are all black and crusty. I'm thinking the motor may have shorted out and not the ESC.
Well, I've got some options. I'll probably order something tomorrow so I can get it back in the air soon.

If you have an ohm meter or plain test light see if any of the motor leads have continuity to the motor case....if so it's definately shorted....they should or most likely will read cont wire to wire but each pair should read the same if not you have a short...

I tested the ESC tonight with a spare motor. The ESC works fine. I definately smoked the motor.
I have a Scorpion HK3026-1400 and a 90A ESC coming from ReadyHeli. I asked them if they would make me a combo deal and they did. Saved some $$s. Way to go ReadyHeli.

90A ESC
which esc? if its the scorpion i hope you got the one with the bec because the regular scorpion only supports 15volts... not enough if your running 6 cell

Yeah - the one w/ the BEC. I'm running an 8V system so I'm not going to use the BEC. The 8717s pull too much current for that anyway.

thats true... a trex 600 at my field has crashed twice and we think its because the bec isnt enough for those servos

8V system on a Hurricane? Really nice :)
The Scoprion Esc with BEC (for up to 6s) has a BEC that only works if you're using up to 3s.
I'm using an external BEC with 2s, but will use the internal BEC of my Jazz80 soon. I'm waiting for my little 4-cell NiMH which will be a puffer for the Jazz BEC.
