I just wanted to chime againg here real quick and say I do agree with Peter's point about not wanting to fly your heli while someone on either side of you is doing thier 3D routine. (DON'T get me wrong, I don't mind 3D and will at times try to kill a little 50 size ship I own.) It is hard to concentrate on your routine when you don't know if the guy a flight station down from you is going to break the "line" that seperates you. Some, not all or most, but just some guys don't care if they break the imaginary line that seperates the flight lines and that be quite un-nerving to have something rocketing at your 1,2,or 3 year labor of love. It will mess you up in your routine.
While I too would like to have the groups combined, I can understand and respect why they are not.

Can't the separate flying sites at the AMA site be used to keep the scale guys flying one at a time Chris? Like when we went to the secondary site while DIY was filming Jeff and Zak, they had the site to themselves and it is a plenty big site.
I can't help but think that it would help you get new people involved in scale and expose scale to a much larger audience.

I don't see why that couldn't be done Will. The only other problem would be as Peter mentioned about Tx/Rx channels. The one way to overcome that would be to post some time in advance a certain set of channels that would be used as an earlier post mentioned. They did this for the guys doing demos so they wouldn't have to wait on thier channels.
So I guess with some hurdles being jumped it could be accomplished. All things in time though you know.

If you have a scale flying site 3/4 mile away, that will not encourage too many people to go down there who are not already into scale.
Anyone who wants to bring a scale model to IRCHA will still be able to do so and I expect the competition will will still happen. Anyone interested in being exposed to scale will still get to see some.
The Nats is not a spectator sport. Its a competition and is worthy of better than being shoved over to one side of a big fun fly. :arggg:

I respectfully disagree with this. There is plenty of transportation to take anyone who wants to go over to that site.

I always have been under the mistaken impression that building up the scale end of the hobby would be a good thing and what you guys wanted.

Its not a question of transportation. Those that want to see scale can go. You are talking about introducing it to others and they aren't going to go over there, they would rather stay and watch the 3D heroes. So you gain nothing. Sure, put scale center stage and then there will be some who will see it who wouldn't have otherwise.
Building up scale (good pun) is our objective, but the Nats isn't a circus where we do demos for the uninitiated. Thats what events like IRCHA are for. Whats the point in making it a public event if there are no vendors supporting it so folks can get more information. And dont tell me the entrants will be happy to explain it all. At that level, the answer is most likely to be its scratch built and potential scalers will ber put off by the amount of work these guys put into their models thinking they will have to do the same.
Anyway, this argument is getting boring. Next year the Nats will be at the Nats. If it fails to attract entrants, the year afterwards, you will probably get your wish and it will be at IRCHA and I'll be elsewhere. Time will tell which of us is right so lets just wait and see huh?
