Is my heli running too rich?I put my finger on the backing plate and it was not that warm at all.I know it should smoke pretty good but I think its too much.What do you guys think?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_55bZh57jkY .BTW,This was my first hover with it :cheers and im selling my new Trex 450SA.Bigger is better,just look at the trees in the back ground..

Paint = cool
Headspeed = too low
Engine = seems a bit lean

I'll richen it up some but my backing plate is not even that warm.How warm should it be?Right after that flight I put my finger on it and it was barely warm.Im going to get a hand held temp gun so what should the motor temp and where do I check it at?I know on my nitro trucks the temp should be around 240F at the glow plug.Once I get the motor running like it should i'll bump the head speed up..If this helps the motor is a OS .32 and im running 15% PowerMaster..

I did not watch your video but: Too rich? way to tell is you will see drops of fluid (unburnt fuel or oil) come out the exhaust.

Temp: I do not know if my hend held temp thing is acurate but I check it on the side of the head as close to where the frame comes down as possible, and I found if the temp is over 220 I will blow the engine.

head speed, hover apx 1800, forward flight 1850 - 1900 3D 2000, these numbers are a R50 with a 8.5:1 gear ratio using OS hyper 50. 2000 is right at the peak horse power, some people run 2100 so in heavy 3D it will drop into the peak power.

When I finished my first hover,it was dripping a little out of the muffler when the motor was off so I plugged it a old rag.Im useing 15% nitro so if im right I should run it a little lean cause it has more oil in it but if I were to use 20-30% I would have to run it richer cause theres less oil and more nitro,am I right?My motor is a OS.32 so I cant go off the specs/setup for the OS.50..

Can you give a little more info on your Heli?

Is it the stock gear ratio (what is the Main gear and pinion tooth count)? Wood Blades or Carbon?

I would run the head temp around 200 - 215 F. This is an estimate and not the best way to tune but will get you in the ball park.

If you are running would blades do not go over 1800 personally I would go 1700 - 1750 on wood blades. They make a mess when the blade root comes apart.

Main gear is a 86T and the pinion is a 9T.I have 600mm carbon fiber blades on it.I also have a set of 600mm woodies and 550mm woodies that i'll keep an eye on when I use them :thumbup:.Not sure if it helps but I clicked on watch in high quality and the first time I landed I noticed a nice size spot of oil on the ground from the muffler after I took off (was not there when I landed)..

I'm no expert, but I think those 600's are a little too big, especially for the .032 engine. I have the 32 in my V1 and have carbon 550's. If I'm not careful, it will bog and just about fall out of the sky. I like it for now as it makes it challenging to fly. My head speed is somewhere between 1,800 and 1,900 and I'm using 30% fuel. Needle is around 1-3/4 turns out. My pitch is 9 degrees both ways. Hope this helps you out a little. Save those 600's for the 50 size heli you will eventually buy.

Thanks for the reply,helped alot :thumbup:.I took the 600's off and put a new set of 550 woodies on it.How do you like the 550CF blades?

Well I just checked my needle setting and it was 2 1/4 turns out so put it at 1 3/4 out.Im charging everything for a test hover so i'll see how that gos but im 99% sure it was a tad bit too rich.Im useing PowerMaster 15% nitro and if im right the lower % nitro has more oil so I still might have to lean it out just a little bit more (1 click at a time ).

I'm not sure what temp is best for the .32 engine, but I'm sure you can search it. You should either get a temp gun or a tach and check the engine that way. I just tached mine and now just check the backplate when I land, especially when the temp outside has changed a lot.

Its running way better.After I landed,I put my finger on the backplate and could keep it there for 7-8 sec's.I'll get a temp gun in the next day or so and find out what the temp should be at.Its still a little on the rich side but once I put it in idle up it should be about right on,i'll do that when I get a temp gun and find out what temp it should be at..
But yeah,thank you sooo much for helping me out :noteworthy :thumbup: :cheers :noteworthy.
