Hdx 500 on Scorpion 1000kv

today I swapped out my stock motor with a Scorpion 1000kv I had in another heli,and yes this is a great motor for a 500,it is much better suited for the 500 then my Hurricane 550. I only tested it with a 4s Evo 3700mah pack and stock 24t pinion, performance was great, headspeed was a bit high so I will probably drop down to a 22t pinion, and then I should be good to run my A123's which should really rock! it really transforms this heli!, on 4s with the stock motor I was really dissapointed in performance, on 5 and 6sA123 it was pretty good but the stock motor just didn't seem to strong. and flight times were lower then expected,. Unfortunatly I blew up my charger last weeekend so I can't charge anything else till my new charger comes.

I also fly my 500 on the scorpion1000 with 6 A123 cells. I get around 6-7 min on a charge. I am using the new 130 tooth main gear, forget which pinion, but get around 2400 rpm at 18 amps and 18 volts. I don't do 3D, but it scoots along very briskly on my setup. After I ironed out some kinks, heli is flying very nicely.

do you know what that is compaired to in the stock gearing? I am running a 22t which I will probably drop to a 21t. I really want to stick with 5s but may go to 6s and a 20t???

Flew the 500 with the Scorpion 1210 yesterday for the first time

it is a Se V1 with V2 head, trex flybar cage and paddles , 130T in modified V1 frame and now with 1210 .

Flew with 4s 3700 Outrages and after 6 mins motor, esc and lipo cool . Running a 24t pinion , HS was too high , had to throttle down. 22T will be fine
Now just awaiting delivery of the 6S 3300 outrages ! 15 or 16 T pinion, I think

Ok guys , the 1210Kv Scorpion is "insane" on 6S!!!
Did all the headspead calcs on various calculators and ..
Headspeed calcs says 94T main with 24 T pinion and 850 motor on 4S is similar as 130T , 15T pinion and 6S - NOT SO !!!
This heli is now ballistic, had to trim down throttle curve to 80,lin, 70, lin,80 in Idle-1 to calm it down ! Will fit a 14T pinion or 140T maingear . With the head upgrades we've done , bring on the Trex 500 !

I ended up going back to the stick motor, the Scorpion did give higher head speeds but I just could not get it to hold well. over all the stock motor performs better. for just flying around the scorpion did well and I could get some higher head speed so rolls were faster, but climbouts and tic-tocs really killed the headspeed, the stock motor spins slower but it stays constant, i raised the pitch so now i get better climbouts then originally, so my conclusion is the Scoprion 1000kv is not a improvement over stock! I probably should have tried it with 6s before I gave up but I really don't want to go 6s lipo, I want to stick with 4s lipo or A123, and with the current settup it looks like the stock motor will fly very well on 5s A123, and really well on 6s A123!

Got mine the other day as well with the 1400 kv. Even with the 130t the headspeed is really high. Very pleased. I agree bring on the align 500s ;)

Trex is the Clone , HDX500 was on the shelves months before the Trex 500

:BangNeither is a clone. The trex has a much different design. However i dont see any reasons why with the right parts and a proper setup the hdx cant preform just as well. For half the price i might add. I really like mine so far.

the HDX 500 does fly very well, with the Trex flybar and paddles performance is very good, I have also added the Trex landing gear which helps. the Plastic tail is total Junk though! the metal tail is really a Must have part for you to enjoy this heli. the plastic flexes too much and the bearings can spin inside the hub and you will get lots of flex causing all sorts of problems. Add the metal tail it it is a different Heli! I am very happy with it now and on 6s A123 performance is very good, although I may sell it and get a E620
i am using a Mastech power supply for my A123's, I also have a Tp 1010 but don't use it for the A123's
