For those of you that have ordered from Flying Hobby, have you used Paypal or VISA? Any thoughts on advantages/disadvantages of either? Just a little wary of sending my VISA info to HK without having any experience of ordering things from overseas.

I've placed three orders, all by Visa. No problems. Flying Hobby has been excellent.

I've ordered from them several times and used paypal as I always do when ordering online. And, I have never had a problem of any kind with Flying Hobby:thumbup:

I used Paypal - with Paypal, I can choose whether I want to charge my bank account or my credit card. And more importantly, I do not need to hand out my credit card data.

I've used my credit card in the last couple of years with some fairly dubious parties. I have been called by Visa on two occasions where they wanted to confirm transactions which they found suspicious. In both cases, it concerned transactions in Eastern Europe by parties I'd never given my credit card data to. In other words, one of the companies I did business with was either careless with my credit card data (or outright sold it).

I am not completly sure about this, but I think that in the case of credit card fraud in shops it is the credit card company (Visa in this case) who gets to pay for the damages. I've been told this is because shops will not accept credit cards of there is a risk of not getting paid. With transactions via the internet however, it is the company receiving the payment that gets to pay for fraud in the end. As such, they want to make very sure they get their money and perform more checks to see if a credit cardtransaction is to be trusted or not. If you see payments you did not authorize on your monthly account overview, I think you can ask Visa to reimburse you. Of course, you will have to convince them it is an unauthorized transaction.

Calling Visa and asking about your risks and options when making purchases online is probably a good idea. Everything I said above may just be complete rubbish.

Cheers,

Mathijs

No surprise here. My company is on the receiving end of probably 50 international credit-card transactions each week. Transactions from Eastern Europe, particularly Russia, are notorious for fraud. We also have trouble with southeast Asia -- Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam. Sometimes Korea. Sometimes Zambia. These are hot spots that require constant vigilance. China's pretty clean. India's good. Western Europe, Australia, Canada, etc. are excellent. The U.S. is excellent but not perfect. These are, of course, generalizations. Individual merchants like Flying Hobby, no matter where they are, can be outstanding.

Fung at Flying-Hobby was great to deal with. My order was for a 500D Fuselage and got to my door from Hong Kong on the 4th day. Hmm, maybe it was three days I don't remember, but sooner than expected. Anyway, I use Paypal with my CC for companies or people that I am not familiar with.
