Had a small incident today when i started my brand new stratus in idle up!!!
Shot some sparks and ruined the clutch, simple diagnosis so far. Took it apart to get a better look and say it was just as I thought. In the process of taking off the hex fitting to get the clutch shoe off i stripped the set screw! UGH. luckily there is a different way to get the assembly off which was through the bottom. got the first set screw out and the second was extremely tight. Stripped it right away. Now i have a broken clutch assembly permanently stuck on a shaft. In the search for a new clutch and shaft, i can't find any specific to the stratus.

Would the fury clutch and shaft work?

Not sure about your question, but it is sooo easy to have a switch flipped and mess something up.... Done it myself ;)

yea it really sucks to do something so small and have such big consequences.

What radio do you use? I know the DX7 beeps you and flashes "F-mode" when you turn the Tx on in idle-up.

But yeah, switches can still get flipped. I crashed my 450 in 10 secs when my gyro switch was flipped to rate mode. Gyro switch is HH only now. ;)

It beeps at you for everything else except for idle up!
I take full responsibility for it and don't blame my radio, when your excited to fly nothing can stop you.
A new clutch assembly is surprisingly expensive.

I would send it to MA and have them fix it.

In the meantime though, 121-11 is the top part and 121-8 is the bottom.

I do think it'd be cheaper to have MA fix it though :YeaBaby:

by the time you make a jig and rebuild the clutch stack, you could order another and have a spare on-hand.
the bearings in the stack are hard to diagnose when they fail, however they dont fail often.
the clutch bell is right hand thread too.

Just ordered an entirely new clutch assembly. Seemed like the best option. The parts seem pretty expensive though, $110 for both, the big ones are a lot to repair.

Still send your old one back though.

If you end up deciding not to, then send it to me and I will :YeaBaby:

There's nothing like having that one odd spare when you really need it.

It is kinda dismantled. Since the bell was still in good shape I wanted to keep it but it was unfortunately stuck on the shaft. The only option was to chop off the hex starter to save $120 worth of stuff. Seemed like a good idea at the time but now that you say i could send it back, i regret it.

If you just cut the shaft at the hex adapter. There is nothing wrong with the clutch shaft except it is a little shorter. I have cut off many MA clutch shafts to make them shorter and not have some much sticking out of the bearing block. Just repair/replace the parts of the clutch that need it and you will have a spare clutch stack.

Wow. I never even thought of that. So the hex starter will just be closer to the frame?

Yes the hex adapter would just be closer to the bearing block. Which to me is actually a better setup. Hence that is why I shortened the shafts . <G>

Just think of the weight savings! Next thing you know, your Stratus will weigh as much as a 50. :YeaBaby:

Only thing though is that your clutch still might be fried depending how long it sat in idle up...

Yea its totally burned up
Iv already ordered new parts so ill just have a spare clutch if its really an emergency to fly.

did you order the entire stack, or just the bell and clutch itself?
it only takes a few minutes with the proper tools to rebuild the entire stack, however its less painless to send it in.

Got the entire assembly. :arggg:

Got the entire assembly. :arggg:
send your old one to Miniature and have it rebuilt.
it's really a matter of time before you either have a need for it if you crash a good bit.

What's the cost to have it sent it and repaired?

WayneBrown

I don't remember the cost, I used to rebuild mine as I'm a cheap ass. :)

I'm trying to be cheap even thought its not working right now. Im funding a few turbines and this 90 seems to only be hurting the bank.

So long as it's under $130 it'd be worth it right? :YeaBaby:
