Im currently flying a 450, and have decided to buy a Hurri 550 but have a few questions..

1. The stock setup includes 500mm blades, do I have to do anything tail wise to swap to 550mm, like a longer boom/belt??

2. What are my servo choices? I am a beginner, just hovering/FF/banked turns and I was thinking of Hitec HS-625MG's..... dont want to spend a fortune, would like the 30-35 dollar range...
I have considered DS821's but dont really like the JR stuff, although I havent tried any for a while...

3. Is a Logitech 2100t & S9650 OK for my tail? - since I already have these..

Thanks Guys
Cant wait to join the 550 club..

1. if you get the plastic frame kit, it has the longer belt and boom already. the CF frame kit has the shorter boom and belt. in order to run 550mm blades on a CF kit. change the belt and boom.. I think all CF kits now include the boom mounted tail servo. the plastic frame doesn't

2. DS821 servos are really good servos.. based on the flying style you mentioned, they'll be more than servo for you. however, ANY standard/full size digital servo will work on the Hurri.

3. 2100T is a good gyro and will work well on the Hurri. the 9650 will work only if you have a boom mounted tail servo. even then, it might not have as long of a life as it would on a 450 sized heli. I know a few have used the Hyperion DS20GMD servo on the tail and love them.. they're priced right too...

For the 550 blades you will need the long tail boom pt # 204191 and belt # 865001 if the kit you order has the shorter setup. The 821 servos will work fine, I am using Futaba 9452's. Not sure on the gyro, I am using a 401 right now but will be switching to the Solid G. Hope This helps.

I went with the standard plastic kit, motor and ESC included, long boom, 500mm blades standard and got it for $300 shipped. Bigger blades are going to suck more power so be advised... I'm currently going to run the stock 'power sucking Gaui 1100' but I hope to be getting a Z20A-980kv motor soon to run with 500 or 515 mm blades. When I can REALLY fly this bugger I'll go to a Z30-1100 and 550 blades but I've got a lot time before I get there. Maybe you're already a good enough pilot, if so, plan on getting bigger batteries right away and keeping your time down on the T-Rex batts in the meantime. Upgrade to a more efficient motor, get a data logger of some kind and tweak and tune.

I hope to maiden my Gaui this upcoming week, finally got some gremlins worked out (as you can read in my threads!) and I'm getting pretty excited. One of my T-Rex 450s will be up for sale VERY soon I'm sure, hell yeah! :Bang:banana:cheers:Bang

Quick Question, who sells the Z20 and Z30 motors that most of you guys seem to be running?

Thanks,

Hi Aussie G, I also bought the plastic frame kit, in a pro version with CNC upgrades to the head - grips, swash, mixing levers. It came with the long boom. If you are planning on getting biggish Lipo's the long boom helps with the COG.

Nothing wrong with DS821's. You can often pick them up cheap too.

Mate you'll be happy with a Hurri.

Cheers

how about Hitec HS-325HB's for the cyclic???

I just found some in my spares box, I looked up the specs they are 51oz & .15s @6v...
I always use a switch mode BEC at 6v...

I also have 1 Hitec HS-5625 digital that I could use for the tail...its 130oz & .14s @6v

For comparison:

DS821 Sport Digital Servos

Torque: 72 oz/in @ 4.8v, 88 oz/in @ 6.0v
Speed: .19 sec/60deg @ 4.8v, .15 sec/60 deg @ 6.0v
Size: 1.50"x.94"x1.47"
Weight: 1.5 oz
Ball-Bearing: Single
Motor: Cored

I'd say your spares aren't going to be quite up to the task; this is coming from a Rookie on the Gaui mind you but 88 oz/in versus 51 is a pretty big jump AND you're looking to spin even more mass with 550 blades so I'd think you'd want very powerful Cyclic servos
(maybe even more then the 821's offer depending upon your flying skill and intentions).

I got 4 brand new 821's for $80; that was 'expensive' in this market but I gave up waiting on 'the deal' for $55-65 and just grabbed them from Ebay to get moving on my project.
