have I mentioned how much I love my hurricane?? if not, let me tell ya how much better it is compared to my 450...

today I went flying.. took my dad along so he could see my heli's and spend a bit of time together... well.... the airtime with the hurri... so smooth... so stable.. so much FUN... did some slow FF... a few piro's (slow and fast)... some nose in hovering... even landed it nose in. My dad was very impressed with the mechanics involved in it and how stable it was in flight...

next up... my little 450se... so tiny compared to the hurri... took off... did a few piros.. no big deal.. then switched over to some FFF... high speed banked turns...stall turns... then it happened.. lost orientation on that tiny heli in a stall turn...

did you know a 450 can go from 100 feet above ground level to .25 inches BELOW ground level in less than a second?? well... they can..and the sound they make when hitting the ground... a nice loud THWACK.. had that been my hurri.. I would have been able to see which way it was rolling and recovered it... not the 450.

the 450 was damn near totaled in this wreck... if the CF frame had broken, that would have been it... but it didn't break so I guess I'll repair it.. but it's gonna cost me... 3 servos.. and a gyro (it hit the ground so hard the gyro case ripped apart).. along with the normal stuff..

my whole point to all this is.... leave the 450's on the shelf... they aren't worth the hassle of losing orientation... Hurri's are MUCH easier to see in flight... love your hurricane... and it will love you back...

I'm also in love.....:smokin:

Ive been holding off building my CF 550 but it's slowly coming together.....

You guys hat have two.....do you fly both....or leave one home and fly one each flying session...

Plastic frame will have the Z20......Cf will have Z30...both full metal head...

I have 3 sets of 3300's and 3 sets of 22-2500's so i guess I could get 3 flights from each...

I have a small 400 class that I need to fix but after Mystic's post.....I may just let it lie...

I might get the 450 back in the air... if I do it'll be a while.. I can either order parts for it.. or spares for the hurri... gee... which one do you think will get my attention and money first..

hey mystic if its a half decent gyro don't just biff it.i,ve seen a couple of smashed cases now where the internals survived just fine

lol... it was a $28 cheap piece of crap gyro that wouldn't know what head hold was if you slapped it with the dictionary... it had a constant drift to the right... IF the 450 gets fixed... I'd like to get a real good gyro.... for my hurri and put the gaui gyro on the 450... thinking about a JR7703D :D

Since I bought the new "spare" 550 I haven't used the old one. My reasoning is that I like my Hurri so much that I couldn't risk not being able to fly so I bought a spare.

I really don't like 450-size helis - they loose orientation to quickly and are too "flighty" for me - I much prefer 550's

Hi

I am new here... and the proud owner of a Hurricane 550 for 2 weeks now. I too am amazed at just what nice piece of work this thing is. We spent about 14 hours doing the build over 2 days/nights - and it just worked!!... like a charm.. first flight.

I started with a HoneyBee King 2 - and sadly I admit I still love flying that - although we (brother and I) have access to an indoor stadium that suits it really well. I also find practising new moves on the smaller heli is good.. the damn thing is just so twitchy that I figure if I can do them on that, then I can do them on the Hurricane!.

Anyway.. just wanted to say hi.. give my praise :noteworthy to the Hurricane gods... and say thanks to everyone for the great posts - they really helped while researching and building.

I fly both hurris (but i fly the z30 powered hurri much more often).
I hear ya Mike..I also used to feel the same about 450 helis being much harder to fly smoothly at a distance until i got the Dragonus II. I hate to say it, but I like to fly the dragon around almost as much as my z30 hurri and it is a perfect little hurri trainer to warm up for my z30 flights and the transition between the two helis is like butter. The dragonus is very quiet, much less weight than other 450's, and is so much smoother and better in the air than the T-rex, Sharks and other 450's that I've flown. Although it IS still harder to see at a distance than a hurri, i don't notice that nearly as much and I don't have any of that "tense" feeling that I do flying other 450's into questionable orientation zones at 100' and more away from me. It tracks and arcs smooth through sweeping turns and even inverted hovers at a distance (when it's looking as small as a CX2) is no problem due to it's stability. If I were to sell one heli at this point, it would be either the Shark 450 or the second z20 plastic framed hurri ..and I will NOT hesitate to spend another $140 for another dragon kit if ..(when) this dragonus gets damaged. The little dragon has earned it's place and will remain the perfect mini hurri partner for the z30 ship in my fleet.

yep, me too, I sold my 450 since it just sat for almost 1 yr, I just got a new HDX 500 because I just wanted something new and figured I would try a 500 since everyone seems to like the 500's, but I still come back to the hurricane, no comparisons. the 500 is quick and has a mean sound to it running near 3000 on the head, but the Hurricane is so stable and precise in comparison and is just as quick, when I want it to be! I really have to say the Hurry is pretty close to the perfect Heli for me, cheap to fly and stability with performance.

took my hurri out today for a little flight... the more I fly it the more I love it.. did some piros.. a little nose in.. hovered a box and then did a nice tail in circle... even did a auto from about 6 feet up... then to show my trex 450 flying buddy how stable the Hurri is... I went HANDS OFF for over 10 seconds.. at that point.. it was just starting to drift a little forward... now that's a stable heli!!! yeah... each flight I love my Hurri more and more....now if my flying buddy will get one..he's looking at it for a possible AP platform..

i bet his jaw dropped when you went hands off.......imagine what his rex would have got up to in ten secs of self control:rolling

not exaggerating at all... 10 full seconds...he tried it with his rex... less than 3 seconds and it was on the move away from him

not a spanker... seems to be working fine for me right now... when they get to be teenagers, then I'll give them a good beating
