DavidH, from being on this site I know that you have been around the hobby for quite some time. So, I'm curious if you wrote this article about diesel heli engines after seeing the authors name.

If so, what happened to the concept? Seems if it worked, what better time than now for it to make a come back.

No prob. I take it that article is extremely old. There's some current threads either here or at RR that suggest diesel is way to unreliable, finicky and just not as powerful as their glow powered brethren. I take it since that article was written in the 80's when 60's were top dog, it might have seemed like a good move to switch to diesel.

Yeah but with a 90 size diesel engine in a heli with a 20 oz fuel tank. You can fly 35 -40 mins on a tank of fuel. I was on a show team we had a diesel powered 60 size engine on the a Telemaster. We would fly that thing for ever on 8 ozs of fuel. Diesel powered is different. But for smell it stinks to me. Also have to carry ether spray and use it sometimes to get the engine started.
