It's funny, but I guess because this is a small tight community, off topic posts makes its way here quite a bit.... I try to refrain from doing so, but you guys seem to love getting the word out when it comes to crabfu stuff lol... so thanks, it's a honor, and for those here for just gaui info... sorry man, just ignor anything with "crabfu" in it.

Anyway, it's pretty cool gizmodo got it in, as well as engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/21/crabfu-strikes-again-with-tortoise-rc-bot/ And yeah, I get a lot of the blogs that refer crabfu as a company or a group or something... if they only knew that it's just some geek taping servos together to see what happens lol :)

Don't sell yourself short Crabfu. You've done some amazing things with servos and not just taping them together. I was on the Giz earlier and happened upon the article and thought it noteworthy in light of yesterdays mentioning. Give yourself a pat on the back man you deserve it. :Bang

I doubt very seriously if somebody just taping together servos would get that many hits.

Good job man. Thats awesome! Your famous. Everybody loves to see what crazy new invention you'll come up with next. I remember when I first joined this website a few months back, and I saw one of your gaui vids on youtube which led me to your page with all your vids. I saw the one where you were interviewed by abc i think it was, and I was amazed by every single gizmo you've created. You've got skillz, and they're damn good!

Thanks, and glad that you've wasted lots of time looking at my silly contraptions :)

Yeah that was a nbc show when I first started doing the steam stuff. I hate doing the interview and tv stuff, just not good in front of the camera, but hard to turn down something as big as nbc :) Actually in about a week discovery channel canada is coming to my home to do a shoot. I'll try my best to not puke

Seriously though, I didn't know Crab was a "real" TV guy. Geez kinda feel guilty for the late night IM's. I'm never washing this keyboard.

Hey,Crabfu. Dont be so modest. Your "silly" toys are incredible.. I stumbled across your stuff a couple months back and showed my 10 year old son some of the vids and he is taping servos together and using his legos in a whole new manner.. Thanks cuz everything I did just chased him away from RC.. Your stuff has him elbow deep..

Gmoney

He even asked me for a box full of crash parts and NOW he wants a CX2 Oh man Daddy is Sooo proud..

Thanks

Gmoney, that is one of the most rewarding compliments I've ever gotten! When I do these events and shows, it's always the reaction of the kids that really inspire me to do more simple projects that they (or with a little help from dad) can make. Steam stuff really sparks the kids interest, but it isn't as easy or safe... runaway steam machines can set their house on fire, or improper boiler care can cause more damage than any kid should face, so would be more of a project for the parent, with kid's help :) when I started doing the simple r/c servo stuff, I can now finally tell the kids yes, you can make one too, and let them bang the sticks around to try controlling them. Surprisingly most kids has longer attention span on them than I thought, even young kids - 6 years old or so, can make swashbots walk... which I had thought would be too difficult to get the timing right. One little kid figured out the sequence to make swashbot3 flip over on its back, and continued to do so for 15 minutes straight... he was so excited that he discovered, and mastered the "special move", and as an adult, you tend to just think it's a design flaw lol.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the story with me about you and your son, it fuels me and keeps me going more than you know. So buy him a cx2, and don't ever throw away any heli parts after you crash... it will make crashing a bit less painful :)

One thing that I'm contemplating right now, is that we used to give kids erector-sets, tinkertoys, girder & panel building sets.

The rascals will make use of them to learn if provided...

(look at all 'o us ;-)

That dork? yeah.... my greatest accomplishment is managing to score a hot wife lol :)

I dunno why he took and posted that vid of the gaui, I was just adjusting my tail, testing before flying it.... then once I started flying he didn't take any vids...
