For you guys that are running the Futaba 3154 on the tail, are you using a voltage step down regulator? What voltage is the Gaui ESC putting out to the rudder channel?

I'm not, don't know what it is putting out.

Wonder if that's why some guys are having the tail servo get hot and fail quickly. Looked for one local to put on when my bird gets here, but everyone has them on back order, including RediHeli.

I haven't lost a S3154 yet on three 200's. They get hot on the 401 but amazingly mine isn't even hot with the Spartan. Weird.

Have you considered the 3156?

Yes,

Some of the Futaba's don't like running over 4.8 volts. Not to say they die, but there is now a tiny in-line 5volt regulator included with the Align 600's for this purpose.

Check the specs on Futaba's site, some of them are explicit that you should not run over 5volts.

Already have the 3154 ordered and should be here tomorrow along with a lot of spare parts from ReadyHeli. Specs say the 3154 is a 4.8V servo, so as soon as I can find a voltage step down regulator in stock somewhere, will put it on the Gaui. Also planning on doing the Chinese weight mod. Where do you find the longer 1.6mm bolts?

Can't say enough good about those folks at RH. My credit card company screwed up my PayPal payment to them and ReadyHeli worked over the weekend trying to get the shipment out to me on Sat.. Unfortunately I was working over the weekend, so didn't get it cleared up until late Sun.. Jennifer actually emailed me Sun. night and was able to fix everything so the shipment went out yesterday! That's customer service!

My Gaui is coming from Flying Hobby. Still not sure if that was a good idea even with saving a few bucks. Placed an order Friday morning (Thurs. night in HK) for the "Profession" combo, extra batteries and an ar6100 rx. Order is still saying "processing". Sent an email inquiring when it would ship and will see what he says when it is business hours in HK later today. Think I will stick with RH in the future. Hard to wait now that I have order my "Wolverine"!

BTW: Crashed my T-Rex for the first time today. Needs new main shaft ($11), main blades ($37), canopy ($29) and will probably replace the feathering shaft ($6). I had a tough time putting together a Gaui spares order that topped $100 total with multiple main blades, tail shafts, main shafts, CF gear, canopy, tail booms, washout arms, gears, etc.. Think the Gaui just became my main heli!

i have a thunderbird-18 running on 3S ,
my Futaba 3154 gets only warm not hot.

i never checked the current,
but the step down reguator could be a solution for burned 3154

btw.

align's 2 way step down regulator are 2 HER 503 GW diodes soldered opposite together

I've got aThunderbird (CC) 18 as well. I'm waiting to get that new 5150 motor to put it on.

Ive heard (from over on RCG) that theres a Typhoon going on over HK, and the Postoffices are shut at the mo...
might explain the delay

hopu u get your parcel very soon from HK. i bought my ep200sd from flying hobby too but i went there to get it... yes the typhoon just gone in the afternoon here so flying hobby should start working already... they are okay to me as they have pretty enough spare parts for ep200...

5150 motor... i suspect 2S ??
maybe on a 2S the bec output is even less than on 3S.
the specs don't say anything about the bec's current output.

can you measure yours? i will measure mine then we can compare.
(i don't have 2S lipos to do both)

Sure, I have a watt meter somewhere. I'll dig it up.

ok i checked them both the thunderbird-18 and the gaui esc with a digital multi meter.

as i said i don't have any 2S lipos so i used a 3S with one puffed cell.

the t-bird showed 5.01V on both 2S and 3S
and the gaui showed 5.10V on both lipo packs.

i think it's save to say they can be used on gyros and servos that are rated "4.8V-only"

Thanks for checking! Don't have my kit yet so couldn't try it out for myself. Package tracking shows they tried to deliver it on Sat., but I've been out of town. Will home tonight and pick it up tomorrow and start setting it up!

Curious where you tested the voltage, i.e. off the ESC, RX or gyro lead and what equipment you are using. I plan on using an AR6100 rx, gy401 and s3154. I will test the voltage coming out of the gyro tomorrow and report my results. I know that Buzz said his 3154 got hot on the gy401, but doen't get warm running it off the Spartan.

T-driver is correct its 5.1v bec on the gaui, no need for a regulator.

I have an align multi fuction tester which you plug the lead from esc into and with the lipo connected to the esc it will tell you the bec voltage, or i would say the best place to check it would be where you would be intending on fitting the regulator if needed (before rx or gyro or in between gyro and tail servo), use a voltmeter to check it at that point then you know exactly whats going into the servo.

That's true. I was talking to some of my friends that are in Hong Kong for the summer and they said that the typhoon there is a 'typhoon number 8' which is equivalent to a category 4 hurricane! My Dad's office has been closed for 3 days. Flying-Hobby has great customer service when they can control it (NASA says they're trying to find a way to control the weather, but I think it's a long way off :)). Just be patient and the wait will be worth it. My Gaui has been in for a total retune and overhaul for the past 3 weeks. Can't wait to get mine back in the air!

The literature with my new 3154 says 4.8 or 6 volt is OK. Shows it to be a bit faster on 6V
