If i use pinion of 16T, the headspeed would be:
22.2*980/(42/16*61/19) = 2580rpm
and i'm using 3000mAh 25c 3s1p x2
do you think that it is possible to fly hard 3D style?

Head speed may be fast. But would it not bog down a bit when using loads of pitch changes? And then take too long to recover?

this is my main concern
beside, i found that the Z30A 1110kv is too tall for the GF canopy....

GF=plastic? If so, I have a mate flying a Z30 in his plastic 550. I think. Its big but it seems to fit.
Maybe his capopy is modified. Im sure someone here will answer though.

I do think that the GF should be the same of plastic
do anyone getting problem of installing z30a with GF canopy?

The Z20 980kV motor is fine for normal flying and basic aerobatics, but if you really want lots of efficient power you can go the Z30 route, but the standard plastic frame requires modification to fit ie bellcrank mounts need to be filed down, which weakens them.
I found the best allround motor to be the Hacker A40 heli motor (S version) and geared correctly it gives you enough power for 3D and still stays cool and are kind to the batteries (6cell 3300mAh Lipos).

If you run the 50t first gear it moves the motor out from the bellcranks....if your also running the plastic frame you should have the inproved motor mount that has the bearing for the top of the OWB shaft.
But in anser to your question, I don't think you would be happy with the Z20 for Hard 3D...
Canopies are cheap...cut it to fit., but plentty of people are running the Z30 and that has not been a complaint that I have heard before...

how does Hacker A40 comparing to Z30A?
A40 only support up to 5cell~~

Why not go for the Z20 1470kV ?
this one gives you more power than the Z20 980kV, and you don't have the problem with the size of the motor.

The Hacker A40 (L series, had it wrong in earlier post) motor ( http://www.aero-model.com/motordetails.aspx?series=A40%208-Pole%20Heli&style="L" ) is rated for six cell Lipo use. Power wise it fits nicely in between the Z20 and Z30. Not as powerfull as the Z30 but way more than the Z20. Kind to batteries as I get 7min geared at 9.8 to 1, using 3300mAh Aplus 6 cells. I use a MGM 60A ESC in gov-mode with a HS of 2100rpm, Maverrik (GCT) 500mm carbon blades.
This setup really works for me doing mild aerobatics and large, fast circuits.

I tried z20 hard noob3d it got too hot, best motor for mild 3d though.

Why not just raise the canopy up with the riser thingies? Lots of info in this thread:

Cutting is good for cooling, I have no 'issue' with that approach but it's not the only option out there I would guess.
Happy Flying!

well i cut mine so the z30 is sticking out for more cooling since i fly in the texas heat :/... i think it still looks good with the motor stickin out

The Z20 KV980 is good for mild sports flying. If you want real power go for Z20 KV1700 or Z30.

Wow...didn't realize the Z30 stuck up that much......I have some cutting to do unless it sits lower in a CF frame.
Bet it will get good cooling....

hehe.. seeing that Z30 stick up like that reminded me... I want to make a ram air intake for the Z20.. the Z30 would look good with a shaker hood scoop :D
