I have a trex 450sa with the 430L motor and the 35 amp BL ESC. When im flying in normal flight somewhere around 3/4 stick the head speed and motor rpms suddenly drop, but still fast enough to fly. If I drop the stick below half stick and bring it back up it usually returns to normal. It does this with both my lipo batteries 11.1v 2200 mah and 14.8v 2200 mah. The heat sink also gets hot enough to burn. Any ideas of what might be the problem. Also, could someone please tell me what the governor does. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.:cheers
Don't know much about electrics so I was just a bit startled by seeing the 14.8 volts. Maybe that's normal but the specs say that 14.8 v is the maximum.

Perhaps it's normal to run these motors at maximum but it it seems better, to an outsider like me, to avoid electrical limits.

That motor ESC isn't designed for 4S operation.
Excess heat in the motor/ESC could be many things. Drivetrain binding, gear mesh too tight, belt too tight, poor lubrication, poor solder joints.. Running too little throttle for a given amount of pitch will really pull some amps and cause things to heat up. These BL motors like to spin.. Crank up the throttle curve, take a bit of pitch out, make sure the drivetrain spins freely and see what that does.

The specs for the esc says it can handle up to 16.8v, but like like you said everything does seem to smooth out with more head speed cause I never have the problem in idle one where I run about 90% throttle. Thanks for the help. Im new to electric helis, always flew nitro, so any advice will help.
