I am a little bored with my Turbine after flying it for the past 3 years or so at more events than I can remember...so...I am thinking about showing up to IRCHA with a Flybarless Bergen Turbine...Been talking a little to Chris about it and the head is perfect for supporting a flybarless conversion...and what it does need I can make in my basement on my mill and lathe with out have to bother Chris...for machining of parts...

so...stay tuned...I will post as the project proceeds...my initial issue is I want to run the V-Bar electronics...and they are as scarce as $2.00/ gall gas right now....I have a Skookum 360 and a Helicommand "Rigid" now...but I think I want to not chance the turbine with them and go with a tried and true V-Bar system from Mikado...

I guess we shall see...although...I think my first Bergen Flybarless will be my Tazer...as a proof of concept before I put it in the turbine...

Ron...you need a flybarless Turbine too!!!! :D

I was just going to ask if you were producing some extra R&D parts :-)

No, no sharing with Ron. Then he'll go putting up flight videos of how great it is with the conversion and we'll all be wanting one all that much more.;)

Again ... you and I were thinking the same thing .... as I want a flybarless for my tazer Super cobra that I hope to do this next winter or so ..... and as usual you are going to beat me to it .... but I am not proud ,,, I will let you break the ground again  :YeaBaby:
Good luck and keep us posted ,,,and if you need anything or another head to bounce ideas off of just email or call

Greg,

Put me on the R&D extra parts list so I can be the first to crash a flybarless turbine:banana

Well...got the official "go ahead" from Chris...and Tod is actually making me some parts...I am asking for completely new set of pitch arms to be made...as I think that will be the easiest way to do the mod...I have already received the modified washout hub that Todd made me (Thanks Todd!!!!! :noteworthy ) ...and just waiting on the blade pitch arms...

It looks as if I will have to be using the Helicommand "rigid" and a spartan ds760/ Futaba BLS251 Servo...

Now if I could only talk Chris out of 3 JR8717 servos! LOL! :D

I was wanting to use the Skookum Robotics 360 flarbarless unit but Art really would like me to hold off..he wants to get into larger helis via small steps...and going from a 4lb Trex500 to a 20lb turbine was a giant leap! and ontop of that...taking to IRCHA!

anyway...once I get the parts...I will install on my Tazer first and then after testing...move it over to my Turbine...so...there is still a good chance of having my flybarless turibine at IRCHA!

Would love to join you guys but IRCHA is just WAY too far for me, close to 1000 miles! I will be in Delaware on the 25th weekend, Greg, will you be coming to that one?

Greg,

I'll be waiting at your tent at 7:00AM on thursday for a demo flight. I'll also bring my turbine for you to install it on also so I can test it out all weekend :banana

Welll...I might be have to admit the turbine might not come as a flybarless to IRCHA...but I did get the first test hover on the flybarless Tazer...it was good for the first test...but have some kind of glitch everyonce in a while...not sure what it causing it...maybe the mounting tape...I did use the zeal stuff...but one big solid piece...the instructions did say to just use a couple of small strips to mount the Helicommand electronics...so will try that after work tonight...

no pics yet as I have just been too lazy...maybe if Mark Webber stops by tonight to help me reinstall the fridge in my camper (cooling unit popped a leak...ugh...expensive repair! yuck) I wil get him to video tape the second test hover...and I will post then...

It may still end up on the turbine...but...unless I am 100% confortable with the performance...I am not going to rush it...all I need to do is plant the turbine while at IRCHA! :arggg:

I'll be happy to tape it but make sure you remind me to bring the camera allong.

Greg Alderman

i have one now...so don't need to bring camera! :D just you and your muscles...fridge it ready to go back in to position...just waiting on you...where the heck are you! LOL

Greg Alderman

Test hop 2 during lunch...what ever I did...change mounting tape? move Helicommand cable so not touching Aileron servo wire? or charge the RX pack? (oops...I forgot that it was a new Outrage RX pack that hadn't been charged!) But what ever the glitch was caused by...it is gone now...

Now I am itch'n to get out of my front yard and go fly it! Maybe the flight that Mark videos will be over at the farm where I can at least fly around with it...

getting excited now...want to get 20 or 25 flights on the head and the electronics then will decide if I will transfer over to the turbine for IRCHA

well...got a short video...but have no idea how to get it on the site...still have to figure out how to get it off my Camera! Wasn't a very long flight...and although very steady...I need to adjust the settings on the electronics as it flipped sort of slow...and rolled evvvvveeeeeennnnnn slower...has to be the set up as I have 9 degrees of cylic set in...and could go more...but 9 on a flybarless should roll very quickly...

Dang, should've used my camera or let me bring yours home. I've got a firewire that I could have pulled the video with.

Greg Alderman

naw....I am pulling the video right now...hooked it up to my iMac and it pulled iMovie right up and so of leading me through the steps...

well...you can sure tell I have no idea what I am doing yet with video editing! I have no idea how to get it on HF so I have uploaded to You tube...I also have no idea how I managed to get the first part of the video to play at the end? So go ahead and laugh your butts off...
