I noticed the gap between the fan and the clutch in my stratus is almost none. When i built the machine the gap was wider. Is it OK, or not. what shoulg i do. I have the hard dampners in the fan.

When I built my Stratus the gap was indeed wider until I spun the engine with my starter. Evidently the clutch driver pins didn't fully seat until I did that. The fan/clutch driver clearance is very small.

you're right bob. I am just wondering though if it is ok. On mine it seems like the clutch driver is almost toutching the fan. I don't want to have any lock outs.

It shouldn't touch. My clearance is about .040" or about 1mm with a YS 91 installed. It would probably be about the same with an OS but I suppose there could be a little difference.

mine fit two sheets of paper between driver and clutch. is that acceptable. is there a way to increase the clearance. I have a YS 91 too.

The build sequence is the engine, then the thrust washer that comes with the engine, and then the bottom collet. There should be no other washers other than the engine thrust washer between the engine and the collet. This is kind of a fool proof setup so I'm thinking that you are OK, but you're right, that's not much clearance. The only other thing that I can think of is that you haven't tightened your "prop" nut enough to draw the fan down fully. I ran out of threads on my crankshaft and had to put an extra washer on top of the 0331 washer that the instructions call for to get the fan properly tightened. I'm not sure if my crankshaft is an exception or the rule.

Well, I flew it today without canopy. I noticed the clearance increased a hair. It flew like a dream. I love that machine. I guess I'll leave it alone untill I notice a potential problem.
thanks bob
