Greetings all-

I am about to be the proud owner of a T-REX 500 and several lipo packs. I would like to know how to keep them safe in a car when we go out for a day.

I frequently go to the field with my wife and after I fly, we hit the mall, or dinner, or a movie, or all of the above. I never worried about it with my Raptor 90, but I know lipos pose a different risk.

How can I safely store my lipo packs while I am out for a day? I considered buying a small cooler and putting a refrigerated (not frozen) freezer gel pack in the cooler with the lipos to keep them cool. Is this a good idea?

I can't be the only person who has had to store their lipos in a car for a day during the summer. Please post how you guys do it safely.

Thanks,

Jason

I have never had to it do it but what about storing them in a small cooler. They are designed to keep cold in and heat out. If it still seems too warm put an ice pack in there and just keep the lipos off of it.

I'd think twice about an ice pack inside a cooler with batteries. Condensation can be just as bad as full immersion. If you really feel the need to keep 'em cool, make sure you keep the ice pack wrapped in at least 2 layers of towels A layer of plastic wrap between the cool packs and the batteries wouldn't hurt either.

I use a pistol case.

I understand what you are saying about condensation. Even if I didn't use a cold pack it might be safer to have them in some sort of insulated case. I can't think of any other way they would stay cool enough to sit in the car. That's why I'm posting here, to see if I can get some suggestions.

Now on to the field. Do you guys just let your batteries sit out in the sun?? Just cover them with towels? Throw them in your flight box/carrying case?

Is this even a big deal? Can you just leave them out and not worry about it?

Thanks,

Jason
