I can fly the heli with its tail facing me but the moment I turn it any other way, my brain just doesnt cooperate and I'm totally disoriented and bam, I have to put it down.
Is there any way to start learning to fly?
lol, ha, I thought flying helis would be easy. I bet its going to take a LOT of practice because every degree change in the direction requires a new approach to controlling the heli.
So... how do I do this. I can just practice on the simulator, right and keep doing it until I get all my orientations straight to the point it doesnt matter which direction the heli is facing?
Oh, and I'll make a separate thread on my lama v3's. I upgraded one, it just doesnt fly well now. Experimenting has been interesting :.p.

:.D... alright. I'll work on my simulator then until I get things straight.
Is it normal to be like this, where I can only fly with the tail facing me or am I extra dumb? I'm not sure if I'm slow or if this is what everyone experiences.

Nope, not dumb at all. It's not that easy to learn, although some learn quicker than others......................which doesn't include me. :arggg: My only advice is to just keep plugging away. If your comfortable with tail in, then work on just turning the tail slightly to one side and then the other. Gradually increasing to more side in. Remember, little baby steps for us slower learners.

Hey Alan-31,
Just thought I'd add my 2 cents here. Finless Bob has some great videos in his tech and video section; the post is in Flight Training videos - Sim and real life! and there is a couple of vids on basic hover and forward flight that have been very helpful in my progress. I can do behind well and face in pretty well now but the sideways (Right and Left) is my biggest problem at this time. He suggests some things that have helped me and they might help you also. I practice both with the sim and the actual heli although I get a lot more sim time right now than otherwise.
Check out his vids! And by the way - you'll get it!

I'm in the same spot just starting to learn side in hovering. Definately check out Finless's videos and work first on the 45 degree side on orientations.

Just hang in there and you will get it. I can do tail in , side in both ways and almost nose in. As soon as I point the nose directly at me I am Fubared and have to do a quick 180 piro to bail out.
I don't have any problems on the sim with nose in just on the real thing. :wow2:

Hey rcmadness i have that too... Frustrating thing is i raced rc cars for years to a high standard and never even thought about orentation-tho if i remember right i was never much cop in the air with one (not so many jumps on uk circuits!) I too can do side on both ways and not being able to do nose in is now after 6 months stopping me from starting proper circuits so like you i just have to persevere! I have found my best way to progress is to take my hovering half circuits out to more of an 8. Still not a proper laazy 8 but small steps or big crashes are my only way.. Hope this helps.:smokin:
