I'm new to heli flying and looking for some guidance. I'm in Southampton NY and prefer not to travel too far.
Also, does anyone know if heli flying is allowed in New York's Central Park?
Thanks.

I live in the city. I SERIOUSLY doubt you will be allowed to fly in central park. If there are no people, then MAYBE you can fly, in the worst case, a cop will just tell you to stop. Best time would be after a light rain when the baseball field is too muddy for people to play around in IMO.

Thanks DH. I just got a Trex450 and dying to fly it. So is there a decent spot around here or should I stick with the Hamptons?

Unless your willing to drive out to Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, NY, there isn't any 'real' flying space around nyc. If no one here knows any clubs in the hamptons then just find a nice secluded spot there and fly. I'm sure you would find one there faster then if you look in the city.
Cheers,
Dark

So I had a little mishap. I was hovering in my apt and had a little accident..not too bad, looks like just blades and flybar, but it sounds like I stripped one of the servos. I don't need to take apart the frame, right? Do I just remove the head assembly to get to the servos? Unfortunately, the person who built this, twisted the two of the servo lines together so that it looks like one as it runs through the bird so I need to take them both out to unravel them. Will that be it for repairs and then it's just a matter of making adjustments? The servo was a 65HB.
Thanks.

I live near Prospect Park, and have flown there at night several times. I even had the cops stop and watch me for a bit, then applauded when I landed - drove off without saying anything. I have seen several people flying electric park planes there as well.
As long as you are not being stupid and flying in crowded places, over peoples heads, etc..., then I am sure you will be ok. Its tough now that baseball and soccer seasons have started... NYC fields are always crowded...
Seaview Rotary Wings is a heli-only club in Brooklyn - lots of nitros there!

No problems flying in Central Park this morning. And when it was crowded this afternoon, I stopped a park officer and asked him if it's allowed and he said there are no rules against it. So as long as you're not bothering anyone or flying near crowded areas, sounds like we're good to go.
So who wants to open up a hobby shop in NYC with me??? Or at least start a club.
