I was flying the 5003d yesterday when the heli started to make the most awful sound, kind of a mid range whirring. I had thoughts of the motor going or the main gear melting. It was a terrible sound, I quickly hit throttle hold and auto'd in.

After a quick look I realized immediately what the problem was. The label was starting to peel off of my Orbit 25-8 motor! LOL what an awful sound that label made. What a relief to find such a simple solution.

Moral of the story, remove the motor labels from your outrunners unless you want a good scare when they start to peel.

I had the same thing happen on my 6003D last week. It sounded to me like the pinion counter bearing was spinning.

Landed and could see the sticker had come off the actro 24-4 and was stuck to the inside of the motor compartment. As soon as I saw the sticker, it registered what the sound was.

Kinda like a playing card in the spokes of my bike when I was a kid, only several thousand rpm faster.

You can get strange sounds that sound mechanical from loose balancing tape on main blades too. took me forever to figure out what it was.

Yep pjpg,

I just had the balancing tape on my Logo 500 3D come partially loose. I wasn't sure what it was either until I noticed it standing straight up. I had it starting on the leading edge, but apparently that still allowed air underneath it. I've now lapped it onto the top a bit. It doesn't look as good (black tape on white SAB blades), but it shouldn't come off again.

Keep 'em flying.:YeaBaby:
