it's posts like this that make me want to spend money... and that in turn makes my wife want to beat me...

great job on the scale.. Hmmm... do I want to do one like this.. or a 500E... or a Agusta with retracts... guess it really depends on how bad I want to be beat...

Mystic, don't forget the beating that you would give yourself when a fuselage like that was eventually crashed.. I guess that would create a whole new meaning for repair time, cost and frustration. They are very neat and I like them a lot and I envy the folks with the skill and patience to do em up. I don't see myself ever going that route because I know that part failure or fat fingers will happen at some point no matter how well it's put together..and crashing something like that after all the time, money and energy to perfect it, man.. it might be enough to wash me right out of the heli hobby. :o

Wow! I'm speechless! You might have posted this already, and I will go back and also check out your site, but can you link where you bought it?

Again, that is just amazing, very very nice work!

Thx for your great feedback! It was my first scale-project, so I'm very proud you like it.
The fuselage was an unpainted, cheap one from a local dealer here in Austria. See here http://shop.lindinger.at/product_info.php?products_id=48900

Nice job, but a crappy looking jetranger. Looks like it hit the wall smashing the nose like a bulldog.

Now, now, now; let's be nice! All these scale bodies are a compromise in one way or another, and they may not be a perfect match but that Yellow Weidi Special looks Bad ASS for sure! Nice work.

Hi WEIDI
Great job. This scale fuselage looks amazing. Can you please share some of your knowledge here so the inexperienced people like me will be able to do paint jobs like the one you did.

So first question is what kind of paints you used and how many times did you had to apply in the plastic fuselage. The second question is what tape you used for the lines and how did you applied on the fuselage.

In the past I have tried to paint the plastic canopy with lines using tape but the paint was not stay separate on the plastic. I end up painting the canopy with the same color everywhere instead to the desired two color look.

Again great job

Hi Madedon,

thanx for you grateful compliments. :noteworthy
I'll try to answer your questions as good as I can, because I know what it means to get help from forums.. Actually I talked to a friend before painting and asked him exactly the same questions you did.

ad 1) what kind of paints
As my design required 4 colors (white, gray, yellow & black) I applied a combination of varnihes: for black, I used an ordinary color from car-painting, a socalled Rally-varnish (in a spray can). As my fuselage was white, there was no need for a special white varnish, while gray and yellow was painted in several steps based on varnishes from Standbox (which I got from a local dealer http://www.schmutzhart-farben.at (http://www.schmutzhart-farben.at/)). They were coated by airbrushing and are water soluble. Every coat was done twice, starting with black, then yellow, then gray and finally clear-coat for finishing.

ad 2) what tape
As my design required 4 colors (white, gray, yellow & black) I applied a combination of Fineline-Tape, ordinary Masking-Tape and schablone made of paper.
First of all, I masked everything except what should be WHITE in the end.
These are my Paper-Schablones I cut based on my foto-realistic designs:
http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/9420/01he1.th.jpg (http://img372.imageshack.us/my.php?image=01he1.jpg)

Then I used Fineline-Tapes with 6 mm and 12 mm from 3M (http://www3.3m.com/catalog/us/en001/auto_marine_aero/aerospace/node_GS6KF8TLK5be/root_GST1T4S9TCgv/vroot_GSNNJ6NQDKge/gvel_GS7T9K8C62gl/theme_us_aerospace_3_0/command_AbcPageHandler/output_html) to mask the roundings.
http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/7597/02dg4.th.jpg (http://img67.imageshack.us/my.php?image=02dg4.jpg)

After that I masked everything except what should be BLACK in the end. This is, how it looked like after Step 1+2. In the background you can see my design for the finished JetRanger.

This is what it looked like after painting black, drying, masking everything except what should be YELLOW in the end and painting yellow:

This picture shows the fuselage after painting yellow and removing the masking tape (left pic). On the right after masking everything except what should be GRAY in the end:

This is after clear-coating everything:

After building it up again:

The finished work you already know:
http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/176/10pp7.th.jpg (http://img66.imageshack.us/my.php?image=10pp7.jpg) http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/474/dsc2253fu0.th.jpg (http://img530.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc2253fu0.jpg) http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/844/11finish2ju5.th.jpg (http://img256.imageshack.us/my.php?image=11finish2ju5.jpg)

Hope, this helps..
Cheers,
WEIDI

edit: what I forgot are 2 important steps, which had to be done before (!) masking and painting. Both steps are important for the adhereence of the varnish!

1) I used a fine sandpaper for grinding to get a raspy surface.
2) A silikon oil was used to get the whole fuselage free from dirt & fat

By the way how much additional you got on the Hurri with that fuselage. It would be good to know how much does it weight the mechanics only and with the fuselage on.

Sorry:arggg: I meant how much it weights with the fuselage.... need to get some rest:confused:

Thx Crashed Monkey, it's just a hobby, but I enjoy video-editing a lot.. :noteworthy
@Madedon: to be honest, I haven't measured the heaviness of the fuselage yet, but I'd guess it has around 4..4,5 kg at all.

Because I had to fight with my Jazz80 lately, I've done a heat-sink-mod now. What I've done is, to switch off the BEC of the Jazz, mounting it correctly (label inside) and better positioned in the cooling downwash, while adding a heat sink from a PC-grafics card. As I got new Lipos with 2x 5000 mAh and discrete accus for the receiver, not only the fuselage but the whole scale is heavily loaded now. The safety-switch with green & red Led is also new..
http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/4212/05by8.th.jpg (http://img95.imageshack.us/my.php?image=05by8.jpg) http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/200/06un4.th.jpg (http://img508.imageshack.us/my.php?image=06un4.jpg)

Because of the weight, flying the modell looks pretty realistic & scale now. On the other hand, I have to change my gear ratio and maybe will increase my RPM in future to cope with partial load on the Jazz..

Weather was beautiful in Austria this weekend, so I flew both of my birds..
