Hi,
I've come to the part, in my heli building phase, where I now need to adjust the min, max pitch angle of the main blades. With the flybar level, with the swashplate, and throttle stick at middle position, my pitch gauge reads about -2 degrees and not 0 as I had hoped for.
Is this something I can only adjust physical on the heli, by adjusting the length of the links from swashplate up to the head? Isn't this supposed to be all setup and calibrated when it comes from factory, since the head was already assembled when I got it?
Thanks again!

Until I get the pitch angle I want? Isn't it supposed to be 0 degrees? Does anyone use anything other than 0 degrees at half stick?

My guess would be to say it's personal preference.. but I can only speak for my own setups. The helis that i use for sport flight i have set zero at mid, and the others I prefer different settings. I have my Dragonus and CF 550 set at -2 at mid stick with a higher swash mix pitch range because I feel more comfortable with that setup when practicing inverted patterns. But yes, zero is what you want to set at mid for standard setup.

He meant zero...when he said what you want.......adjust the links form the swash to the bell-hiller arms to get get zero...

Yes, you want to set 0 pitch at 50 on the pitch curve. Then you can change the mid stick pitch with the Pitch Curve settings.
A trick to make sure you have 50, is to set your middle 3 points to 50, so 0 - 50 - 50 - 50 -100 for the setup. That way, if the stick is anywhere near center, the output will be 50.
And while the head came assembled, various factors mean that every heli has to be setup, even the RTFs like the Blade 400.

Dont forget to check both blades not just one!

do you think 11, 0, -11 pitch is good for Hard 3D? or 13, 0, -13?

Hi willow, Im using 5 + at mid stick .I was told its best when your learning ?

It is best to set your mechanicals so that you get +10 to -10, and then set your pitch curve so that you get +3 or so (+5 if you want but this is probably flying already) at half stick. This is the way that the heli is deigned to be set-up and will give a more consistent feel when you change at a later date to a symetrical set-up.

my 550 could travel +/- 13 degree, but I'm confused that whether i set it at max 11 or 13 during hard 3D

it all depends on the gearing and motor selection you have. +/- 11 is fine +/- 13 is a lot of pitch.. plus you need to look for binding..

I'm running -+11 and that is a lot of pitch. I don't call the flying i do hard 3D, but i'm not easy sport flying either. The best bet is to try 10 or 11 and if it doesn't seem like enough for your hard 3D, then bump it up, but as mystic said, watch for binding at the cyclic extremes.

It depends. Most people set up with 0 pitch at mid stick in all modes now. Setting +3 to +5 at mid stick can make hovering in normal a bit easier, but at the expense of having the ptich change when switching it Idle Up. And a lot of people ONLY fly in Idle Up.
The most common setup these days is -2 to 0 to Max pitch in Normal. That makes the mid stick to high stick the same in all modes, which means the stick positions and movemnet are the same in all modes.
As for how much pitch you can run, it depends on the motor. If you have the power, the more pitch the better. But for learning +/-10 will mean the collective is less sensitive.

I am still trying to get my setup sorted out. In stunt mode, with a linear pitch curve from 0% to 100% I get -10 to 10 degrees pitch. This to me means that my linkages are more or less correctly set up. However, in normal mode I only get about 6 degrees maximum pitch with a curve from 0% to 100%. What must I do to sort this out?

investigate your radio bro.make sure you have the same endpoints, pitch throws etc between modes
