I am currently running 3s 2200's and am looking for an upgrade....
I run
align 75A esc
z20 980
500 carbons
14t, stock gearing
I was thinking about some 3300's or even 4500's if I can carry all that without being tooo heavy
my 2 packs weigh 340g - could I double that?
680g - seems kinda high...
but considering most 3300 3s packs weigh around 290 each - thats around 600 - so 680 might not be so much

My two 3300 weigh 263 gram each.....so we're looking at 526 gr total...and it flys very well with the Z20-980

you gotta think what will fit... my 3300s weight 300 each but theres not much room left... 3300s and the z20 would give you plenty of flying

Fit is indeed the issue. I fly 8S A123 = 640g with Z20A, 500mm woodies (CF on the way!), long tail and boom mounted S9253 tail servo. It *just* balances and it is a real stretch to get the (plastic) canopy on. I think the 3300 are proving to be the sweet spot.

Canopy fits over the KP 6s 3200 (570g.) with a lower mount extension to allow canopy nose to lift up.

My two APlus 3300 22C weight 285 gram each and my Hurricane fly very well with the Z20-980. I have about 12 min of flying time with 15% left in battery.

I have about 12 min of flying time with 15% left in battery.Sounds to me as if you are discharging your packs to deeply for their health. The basic guideline is no more than 80% discharge and less is better as far as battery lifetime is concerned.

I used the 2nd half of the RH cf battery mounts screwed to the landing gear. All its doing is keeping the canopy from lifting up.

Ah I see, thank you for the photo. So it doesn't engage with the hole in the chin of the canopy, right ?

I could mount the pin and drill a new hole but its not needed. The canopy is wedged in place from the mounts, battery and the extension.
The extension keep the canopy from rotating up. The battery keeps it from rotating down. The upper mounts keep it in place.

I fly mine with 2 x 3500 zippies. FF and the odd loop and roll (not by me). I have a flying buddy that uses the same batteries. I have a Z20A-980 and he is running a scorpion 1210 motor. Hover around 350 watts and can run it out to 9 - 10 mins of sport flying with 1800-1900 head speed.
Both machines have stock canopies on them. I have a set of 3300's that I use on the G550 as well but think I will move them over to my 500 when its completed.

I think I have the BIGER batteries ever used on the hurricane. I fly it with 2 x 5000 KP. I have a Z20A-980 with 550 blades. When I hover the Eagletree shows 470 watts 21A average and I can run for about 10 - 15 mins of mild flying with 1700-1800 head speed.
The hurry feels really heavy but also steady and 3D flying is out of the question (Not that I m capable of 3D but anyway). The total weigh of the heli is at around 2Kg without batteries and with the KPs is at 2,9Kg
I would not advice anyone to go down that road. I believe that the best set is 3300Mah around 500-600 grams

Holy sh!t. I wondered if anyone had tried 5000mah packs.

I've actually thought about building 2 550s to do geese control at golf courses and having 10-15 minutes of flight time would be ideal. All the flying is slow FF and hovering to herd the geese. These puppys would be built on the cheap in case one of the geese gets a bad case of stupid and tries to attack the heli.:wow2:

geese have bad habit of getting stupid.. used to get chased by one when I was a kid.. things are mean...

Yeah, but the geese hate the heli. If you did hit one just imagine the explosion of feathers.:YeaBaby:

Geese Control H550 setup (lowest cost for long flights with hovering and slow FF)
1 x Stock H550 with 890KV motor and 50A ESC
3 x Futaba S3001 ($60)
1 x Align RCE-600 Head Lock Gyro Combo (RCE-600+DS520) ($130)
2 x 3S ??00mAH batteries (best combo of size and price, probably at least 3300mAh)
Gear it low, maybe 14-50-19-61 for the GAUI 890KV motor to allow headspeeds in the range 1400-1600rpm. The lower the better for duration.
Optionally strap a 6S ??00 under the frame between the skids in parallel with the other packs to double flight time.

Why not slap on two of the 4000mAh pro tek's without a canopy (if it won't fit) and have 8000mAh's of flight time? That should give you at least 12 mins (maybe more) of hover/ff flight time to buzz those feathers.

Thanx!
Actually, you need 2 helis and pilots because of the distances involved. About 8-10 minutes is all the flying time you need. First heli gets the feathered rats from A to B and second heli moves them from B to C. Hopefully C is off the course.

that would be a cool job...goose chasing heli pilot

Wild goose chase, you beat me to it!! ;-)
If you hit one I'D love to hear the explanation you'd give to the State Game Warden for hitting a Federally protected species. "There I was just flying along minding my own business when this damned goose attacked my heli! Will the Feds buy me a new carbon Gaui to replace this one!???! ;-)

I would recommend at least 1500 rpm headspeed. I was flying at 1550 and the tail was starting to give out in backward flight. I doubt you'll be going backward but for safety I'd still recommend at least 1500.
