Chris,
Last night I got home late and I was so tired, but I turned on the TV to see what's on before going to sleep. Then, while making my bed and stuff, I thought I heard the name Chris Bergen and Greg Alderman. I don't have to mention that all of a sudden I wasn't tired anymore. I just had to stay up and see what that was all about. Was so thrilled to see on TV 2 guys that I talked to before. That was wayyyyy cool.
I didn't get too much out of the whole grassman thing, but the flights were terrific. Especially the night flying.
Thanks guys, our great hobby needs this kind of exposure.
Did you guys fly many flights for this show, and they just showed the most important stuff, or that was all you flew?
Thanks.

Ciprian,
We actually only flew 3 times, once with the Turbine, twice with the E-Observer. We didn't have to do a bunch of retakes, except maybe when I was talking and flubbed my "lines"......Most of my dialogue was off the cuff, except my disappointment at not being able to fly the next day....
Greg can probably agree, it was fun to hang out with these guys, if nothing else to see what they do to put together a show like this. It was all done with a bit of humor, which kept the tension of being in front of a camera at a minimum.

I'd have to say that you did great in front of the camera. It seemed just like talking to you at the shop or on the phone. Guess your a natural, huh?

Well, 2 things contributed to that I think,
#1. Discussing something you are very familiar with. I talk about helicopters everyday.....
#2. Having a friend close by. With Greg also "in the spotlight" right next to me, knowing he would keep us from a really BIG blunder and back me up if needed as a pilot or mechanic.
And as I stated, the Monster Quest guys were very good, not demanding, just let us do our thing within our capabilities and get the shoot done.

Did you guys take some protection? I mean...what if Sasquatch tapped you on the shoulder while night flying??? :-0

Actually, they failed to mention the fact that this creature was KNOWN to attack people...I found out when I watched the show!
:):) And I do have a carry permit.....

Now that would have made for some interesting viewing...You defending yourself while flying. We'd see just how good your skills are, right?;)

At that point, forget about the helicopter!! When "Grassman" taps you on the shoulder, you scream like a girl and run away!!
You carry to make sure you're not the last in line.......:):)

If you get tapped on the shoulder, do you:
1) drop the tx, scream like a girl and run away?
2) say "hang on", land precious, then drop the TX and do 1)?
3) maneuver the heli down and attempt to scare him away with it?
4) use the heli as protection by putting it between you and him...
All in all, I think you should go back with that night vision camera and do some more shots, that was pretty damn cool if you ask me!! I think that warm spot you saw on the first flight was probably a snoozing deer or something...

Hi,
Any chance of getting a clip of what was televised?
Since I was not there, I had no fear :)

Yes and I just watched the entire episode. I never heard of that suspected creature before and here I was driving truck at night all over Ohio, had I known about this, I would have drove around Ohio, not through :)
Great scenes of you guys.
So was that a mold of your hand or of Greg's?
Or can't you say?

Chris,
If it is not too much to ask, how did they contact you?

During one of the societies searches for the grassman, Chris was mistakenly nabbed. They were shocked that the grassman could talk and then they figured out, it was really Chris they had, not the grassman. And the rest is history or, now on tape...

They contacted us from our website initially, like most people. I then emailed them our number and we began discussions on what we could do and where we could fly. When they saw our night flying video, they really were excited to get the shoot done for this seasons episodes.

I caught this the other night. Man was I shocked. I now know 2 movie stars!
Looked great guy's, just had to log on here and say something.
I watched it on YouTube - I was so pleased to hear the Wren engine spool up and see it take off, I was saying "We made that!"
I'm glad I live in the UK, we don't have Grassmen over here...

I stopped by a local business and found a crap aerial photo of our local highschool field. So I asked the business owner if I could exchange it for a hi res shot, along with my business info. The owner started telling me about the grassman show and that they really were not interested in it but watched it for the helicopter stuff. Of course, I name dropped..."oh, yea, I know that guy...been to his shop...use same Bergen Helicopters..." Who would have thought someone would be intrigued by an RC helicopter?
