For the money, the 401 is a very good gyro. I don't think I would put less on a Hurricane but there may be some other options out there.

you could also use the Logitec 2100 on the hurry its also good but a little more dificult to set up than the 401

Dont skimp too much on the gyro as this is one of those important components that will really spoil your flying experience if you dont get a good one.

Buy the bestyouo can afford Spartan DS760 is the Dogs Danglies at the moment and i think its quite a good price really.

401 is a very reliable gyro lots of setup information for them on the web and more than likley someone near to you will know how to set them up.

Get a secondhand one if you can

I agree.. in most cases the 401 and logitech are a great value, and they hold the tail well enough for most advanced maneuvers, and you can pick them up used for decent prices. Anything more is kinda overkill for sport+ flying and if you crash and wipe out a 401 or logitech gyro, you won't feel quite as bad (like walking off to die) cuz you wrecked at $200 or $300+ piece of heli hardware.

Besides, the gyro technology will only continue to get better and cheaper over the next year or so. All the current $200 and $300 combo stuff will be old news soon enough and it all will be able to be had on the cheap (sooner than you think) just like the GY 601 combo i picked up at at less than 1/2 the price it was when it was "new". ;)

You can spend now.. or save now - your choice. The money i save now is growing daily in my trading account vs growing in someone else's bank account. I choose save now and upgrade later at a better price point.. but only you know your budget and.. it's your choice, time and money. :)

Just to give an alternative approach - I use the Gaui GU210 gyro on one of my 550's and a Telebee on the other (about $60 - $70 each). I am only on figure 8's and moving up to racetrack circuits, my progress is fairly slow so I see no need for top quality components yet "close enough is good enough" is my approach

Depends where you are at with your flying and where you want to go. A decent piezo gyro for around $70 can certainly work for learning and basic FF. However with quite a few higher performance choices around the $100 mark there is no need to go piezo.

The Logictech 2100T is about $105 and does a very good job. It is a bit fiddly to set up compared to the 401 and much more sensitive to vibration, but has separate travel limits for each direction which is an improvement over the 401. It is also half the size and less than half the weight.

The RC-Tek RCT-G730 for $98 is good value. Similar features and performance to the 401 but smaller and lighter. I have one waiting for a heli to fly on!

The new Align RCE-600 Head Lock Gyro Combo (RCE-600+DS520) is a bargain at $127 for gyro and high speed tail servo. This is probably your best bargain option in today's market.

If you are buying new, the other one to look at is the JR 770 3D. Similar prace to the 401, but a better gyro. Not super hard to setup, but reports of awesome performance. Mine hasn't flown yet.

They are available used, but not quite as cheap as a used 401.

But I have a 401 with S9254 I will be looking to sell. I bought it for a 50 nitor, but ended up getting the 770 3D with 8900G combo.

401's are all over for sale used to NIB for $85-110; there were a few up last week on RC Groups one for $85 that I didn't 'need' but almost bought just because it was such a good deal!

I think there's a 770 over there now for $125, heard nothing but great things about that Gyro for sure.

Happy Flying!

I am running the 2100T and it is really great. I found it difficult to setup my first one, but now I run them on both my helis and it only takes a few minutes to set one up, you probably find the 401 is down in price because of gyros like these and others on the market now.
