View Full Version : Upside down 401 mount on HDX450?

I have an HDX450 se with a GY401 gyro. After a pretty nasty crash I decided to mount the gyro under the boom on this bird. I mounted it with the cushion tape to the two aluminum tail blocks directly under the boom and made all the appropriate reversing changes to the radio and gyro. Problem is I could never get the tail to hold or stop after a piro even with the same gain and delay settings. Also in a hover the nose kept creeping to the right. I moved the gyro back on to the top gyro plate and all is fine again (until another boom strike).

My question is, does the mounting surface have to cover most of the bottom of the gyro? And does anyone know of a gyro mounting plate for the under side of an HDX450 as with the Trex?

Thanks for any help.

There should be no difference in operation as long as you have a very solid mount. If your gyro is tacked straight to the boom clamps, I imagine it might not be quite as stable as it should.

RDLohr on this board makes a lexan gyro mount for the HDX450/Superframe - http://www.wavelandps.com/clearly/products.htm

I cut a 21mm x 21mm aluminum plate to mount under mine.
Worked great for my 2100t

Just mounted to the bottom with double sided tape and threw an Align velctro strap around it, still good 50 flights later.

Thanks for the info. I ended up cutting a piece of 1/8" plexiglass and screwed through the sides. It's very solid and works well. I still have a problem with drifting to the right in a hover. I'm running about 55% gain HH on my Spektrum radio and about 60% delay on the 401. No tail wagging but still wants to drift.

Guess I should ask the Futaba thread about this.

Thanks guys.
