Was out flying my HB yesterday and wanted to get some new action shots so I set my DSLR for the shutter, ISO, and auto focus and got my fiance to shoot some pics of it while it was in the air. Here are a few I really liked

Nice photos. Looks like you cut down the swash plate holder a bit. I am debating to either do that or possibly get a walkera main shaft. (it might be a bit longer).

How long are your flight times? I have a very similar build except I have a smaller rotor at the rear. I am getting around 3 minutes tops. I do have a stock main motor though.

Thanks guys. yeah I cut down the swash holder so it wouldn't interfere with the rotor. My flight times are easily eight minutes, before I start loosing tail authority, so I try not to fly much longer then that.

did you cut the tail fin or is it broken? just wondering :confused:,still looks very good :thumbup:

Well when I first put together the frame I guess I didn't have the landing skids set quite right so the tail was hitting the ground....so I trimmed it down to not hit, after which I realized I had to adjust the landing skids:arggg: so now it's like that:confused:

Where did you get the tail rotor? I know of only one place heli-fever.com. Also, are you running a SloMax or a stock motor for the main blades? Finally :) did you cut down the tail boom as that frame and tail motor make the bird too tail heavy requiring lots of forward cyclic to stay in place.

I'm running the new xtreme 380 motor and 8 degree wooden blades. As for the tail...its the gws direct drive tail motor and rotor which I got from tower hobbies
Motor =http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHHF7
Tail Rotor=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHHE2
Fin = http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHXK4
And yes I cut down the tail boom about an inch I think to get the CG right

Thanks a lot for the links. I think I will stick with plastic blades for now as I still tend to wreck rather frequently. Stupid wind...

No problem. Only within the last few weeks have I really started to fly it and not just attempt to avoid a crash:YeaBaby:

Are you using regular flybars? I recall reading somewhere that it is possible to get more durable ones. Also, when you crashed it did you notice that it had a tendency to go into a dive while inverted. It seems that with that fiber frame the heli is top heavy. I wonder if getting a longer rotor shaft will make it more stable. (like a pendulum with a longer arm)

i used once stainless steel flybar ,it worked grate till i crashed and it did lot more damage then stock flybar ;)

Yeah I use the stock ones because I by 4 feet of 2mm carbon rod for 1.25 and make my own:Bang As for the inverted issue since its a fixed pitch if it flies inverted I did something horribly wrong

Where do you buy the carbon rod, as that is a killer price.
I totally messed up what I was saying about inverted. What I meant was that the heli in bank sometimes rolls so much that it starts going inverted and I can't bring it back.

BP Hobbies sells it and my mistake its around 3 and a quarter feet for 1.25

My heli doesn't really seem to have a problem while banking, mine still wants to nose up and stall coming out of turns(I think its called coning). Since I'm still using the stock rotorhead I think I need to stiffen it up some to help with that.

Hey can I use this for my direct tail drive setup? I have an xtreme 380 motor and the stock tail won't hold. I looked in to getting the same thing everyone else is getting for the tail but they are sold out on the prop. So will these work? Comes with motor and props.

So can anyone answer the above post?

I have the same eXtreme 380 motor. I use the DD motor that comes with two orange props. However, I use the GWS prop with the adapter. ka-planes.com has both items. It works pretty good. I just had to tweak the 4-1 a bit to get it set correctly but it works quite well now

Cool I didn't know Ka-Planes had that stuff, so use to ordering from them for my Falcon 3D. Yeah anytime you change something drastic with the set up you usually have to reset the 4-in-1.

Real quick, and maybe rotoryboy can chime in on this. What does the gain and pro do again on the 4 to 1 when you adjust them?

The Proportion knob acts like the gear ratio of main motor to tail motor.
If the Prop is to low, the tail will move right because it doesn't have enough force to counter the main blades, causing a counter-clockwise Pyro.
If the Prop is to high, the tail will move left because it is pushing to hard, causing a clockwise Pyro.
The Gain knob is how fast the tail reacts to counter input or an outside force. When you give the sticks a tail input, it is how fast it recovers when you release the stick. As a general rule of thumb, all my 4n1's Gain is set at about the 10 o'clock position.
If the tail is bouncing back and forth like a yoyo, then the gain is to high, it is constantly countering its counter movement.
If the tail is "jetting", the gain is to low. Meaning it revs up and pushes hard one way for about a half a second and then stops, only pushing hard one way again in about another half second. You tail will act this way once your pack gets low.

Awsome! Thanks! Man Rotaryboy you seem to know alot. How long have you been doing this hobby? I mean I know quite a bit about real helicopters but I just started flying rc helis about a month and a half ago.

Well... I flew for about 1.5 years before I joined the military. When I joined, I sold my birds because I didn't think I would have any time to dedicate to them.
Now.... 6 years later.... I am making time. I have been back on the sticks for about 10 months now. So all together, I have been flying for almost 2.5 years.
The biggest contribution to my HBFP knowledge is the fact that I taught 4 new pilots to fly while I was deployed to Iraq. So I didn't have one bird.... I had 5.... I was teaching them and one of them was always crashing, so we always had at least one in pieces.
I am currently flying:
1 Super FP (belt tail)
3 HBFP (modded to different stages)
2 Belt CP's (bought them used, waiting on parts to get them back to 100%)
