hello all.
I have a problem with my motor/esc.
THE PROBLEM:
My motor spins backwards when installed in the bird. when I take it out of the heli, it spinds correctly with lots of power. ALthough sometimes it glitches a little at low rpm before it gets going.
I have the EK1-0350
BUT once I put it in the bird, it insists to spin backwards! Even if it is not meshing at all with the main gear. it spins backwards with no power. For kicks i tried revesing the red and black wires that run to the motor - but then it spinds in the wrong direction with lots of power.
I tried reveresing the channel, although this just changed the stick position - which is what I expected
it seems voodoo to me.
THE STORY:
I just recently bough my self a 7chp. my stock radio was 35mhz so I jhad to put the 72mhz that came with the radio. It's alittle big for the king 2 frame, but still fits. However.. I wanted to mount the esc far away as I could, so I extended the r/b/w/ witre that goes to the radio with a terminal from an older futaba servo. do you think this may have changed the timing on s the ESC somehow?
I'm at a loss. I am just hooped? did it freakily stopp working by coincendent?
if so.. I'd be look for what.. a new motor? a new ESC? Both?
if so.. I should by a ......... ???I'm thinking of moving up to a 450 clone, so something thaty could work for both would be nice
chanks in advance, mang!

pretty simple:
your connection:
Motor R --------------------- R ESC
Motor B --------------------- B ESC
Motor W--------------------- W ESC
Change it to:
Motor W ---------------------R ESC
Motor B ----------------------B ESC
Motor R ----------------------W ESC

if you have changed the wiring the way kimi said and it goes the right way when not in the heli and the wrong way when mounted then all i can guess is one of the mounting screws is too long and contacting something it shouldnt as that is realy the only variable or the wires may be loose inside

weetbix,
the screws don't seem to go through too far. They are the orginal screws that I was using before, so nothing there should have changed.
As for loose wires, thats what I thought.. but fiddling with them and bending them this way or that has no effect, either insode or out of the heli.
as for changing the wires it behaves quite strange. When installed in the heli--> If I match all the colors up, it spinds with no power in reverse. if I reverse the wiring, then it spins up with lots of power in reverse.
no matter what I do it seems to spin the wrong way, either with power or with out.
the only thing I changed was the length of the leads from the ESC to the reciever. so maybe this chanegd the timing by a hair?.. .I'm not sure...
Something is wrong, I'm just not sure what to replace. the ESC or the motor?

I should post a video.. cuz this is actually really wierd. I've been in R/C many years and have never come accross something so bizzare.

how are you verifying its running the wrong way? because the blades arent moving? could be that your one way bearing is gone completely then blades wouldnt move no matter what direction the motor is spinning.

i would say then that it is an ESC problem rather than a motor problem

I can see and feel it spinning the wromg way.
I also checked the one way bearing by giving the main agear a spin.
I'll have to find another ESC and see whats up. i'm realy thinking that extending the esc leads to the reciever changed something.. because I did nothing else. guess we'll have to see.
thanks for the help folks!

when you lengthed the leads did you just wire extra cable on the end or did you change it where it solders onto the board.
i am thinking you may have either
1. soldered them back on the wrong way.
2. have a dry solder joint. (could cause a bad signal to the ESC so it is confused)
3. to much heat into the board when soldering on the wires and damaged something else.
4. if you removed the heatshrink from the ESC when changing the wires you may have touched the chip and killed it with static from your body ( have heard myself discarging into a chip before, it is a high pitched squeel that you can just hear) lucky it was on a buggered harddrive, but if it wasnt it would be now LOL.
5. if you have just joined the wires you may have a bad connection / solder joint
6. when doing the rewireing you have had 2 wires touch together and residual power in the system has stuffed something in the ESC.
if you change the wire config on the motor the black should stay the same and only the other 2 wires should change. my ESC has black, white and red but my motor has black, yellow and red
I had to change mine because of the motor spinning backwards so on mine i crossed over the red and yellow over so red goes to white on the ESC and yellow goes to red on the ESC
my motor is an EMax Power 3100kv
keep us posted how you get on with it. its certainly baffling.
