View Full Version : How free should the flybar move?

I bought a used guai 200, and it floats all over the place in hover, even indoors, almost have tbe.
I replaced the main shaft, rocker arms, and the head/flybar is still stiff, and not very smooth compared to my 450 and 500. When you hit the flybar it just stays on the side you hit, and doesn't bounce back. Is this normal for this heli?
I am thinking of just buying a new one, to see if it flys better. Also there is one area where the main gear has a good bit of wear, could this cause tbe?
So should I just buy a new gaui, and use the old one for spare parts, or should I buy a new head setup?
Thanks,
Dan

This is not normal. The flybar should be extremely free. Nice and floppy. In my case, the links were binding. A little reaming out every link fixed it.

Having not flown mine yet I can't say how it 'should' fly, but I can tell you that I found errors in the manufacturing & assembly of mine. IMHO ARF means almost ready to take apart and reassemble.
One blade grip is very loose on the bearings and will need to be replaced.
Other places were excessive use of loctite had frozen joints and needed to be cleaned and removed.
My flybar moves very smoothly, just like it does on the rex.
Based on your description, I'd guess you have too much locitite somewhere. You need to find that joint that's nearly frozen and correct it.

ReadyHeli. (http://www.readyheli.com/Ball_Link_Sizing_Tool_p/jrp960219.htm) Works like a charm.

If you do buy a new head, are the links already installed, except the ones to the servos?

why would you buy a new head?
Just diagnose the problem and fix it, NBD.

There is a "washer issue" with the flybar cage.
Where the flybar cage attaches to the head, there are two washers, and they both go on the outside, even though it looks "logical" to place one on the outside and one on the inside.
Did this make sense? (It is still early in the morning here) :)

Yeah I believe Peter is corrcty, and that is most certainly the problem. I have tried to fly with it the "logical" washer way, with the flybars a bit stiff, and boy it was rather exciting - it wasn't totally tight or anything, but much tighter than it should. Anyway fly bar should be super loose, once you have the washers correctly installed, it should bounce a few times when you tap on the flybar paddles :)

I had exactly the same problem.
Check the washers first.
Next, all the links should just barely support themselves at 90degrees when bumped around.
The ball link sizer is 3.5mm, if memory serves. As always, there is a good vid on sizing technique.

Okay so I switched the washers, and that helped with the flybar. Then the links from the swash to the rockers needed adjustment, and we are good to go.
Also my tbe troubles were from my 401 gyro cable getting stuck under my outrunner motor, slowing the motor, and causing the tail to wag, not good. Luckly I caught it before the motor went into the wire, but there is a nice burn on there.
You have to be careful with wires on this tinny bird.

Would someone mind posting a picture? I'm a little confused as to which washers you all are referring to.
Thanks

:confused:me to wubble.
if they are refering to the flybar spindle to headblock washers then there are 4 of them (2 on each side)but they all go between the flybar spindle arms and the headblock bearings.2 stacked on each side.
i do know alot of people have asked how to get them in(easy just slide the headblock bearings out put screw thru bearing then washers then while holding spindle in place just start the screws,as the bearing starts to seat just press it in and finish tightening the screws)
if done right there is 0 play in the spindle and it is silky free.

Just picked up one of the JR ball link sizers and it is WAY to big for the 200. Might have to try the MH one.
