Guys,
motor will not spin up...thought it was a backlash issue so removed tail and moved gear away from main gear (no other gears touching). when I add throttle, the motor tries to spin (maybe 2-3 turns). It acts as if it spins 2 turns one direction, then reverses and then just stops altogether. The esc also gets warm after a few of these cycles. Hard to explain but can anyone make sense of whats going on???

It sounds like one of your motor wires is not connected to your esc. I also had a similar thing happen tonight. The motor would try to run but would never turn more than a turn or two and then stop. It turned out that the motor wires were touching the motor case and preventing it from turning. All I had to do to fix the problem was reposition the surrounding wires.

Good one. I've had this happen, too.

Hi,
I've had the exact same problem. Motor would not spin up just back and forth a couple of times and everything became hot.
Turned out to be bad connection between esc and motor. I wouldn't believe it at first because I've changed from the small servo connectors that were included to 2.5mm gold-plated ones.
No problems since I've soldered the connections!

Sounds as if only two of the three motor wires are connected/working.
Check the motor to ESC wires and connectors.

+1.
Check all your connections. Might be a broken wire or a bad solder joint.

you guys are awesome...
Will get a "three way" connector after work today and try again.
In other news, you have to take one servo out to get at one of the motor screws huh...:arggg:

repalce them with M3 x 5mm button allen head bolts and you'll find that a 3mm Allen key fits fine without the need to remove the elevator servo. I was worried about stripping out the CF frame by taking the Servo in and out just to alter the gear mesh.
