Hey guys, I'm looking at getting an Outrage 550 but have a few questions. I currently have 2 Outrage 4S 3700mah 25C packs, would I be able to fit two of these in series on the battery tray or would they be too heavy/bulky? What motor would you recommend for an 8S setup? I will be using the helicopter for AP so I will not be 3Ding it. I have 3 Futaba S3151 servos, a 9650, a gy401, a 5A HV BEC, and a 70A HV ESC. Would all of this work well with the Outrage? If not, what should I replace?

Thanks for your help :)

yes

Incorrect Lith, the number of poles used in this hobby's terminalology refers to the rotor's poles not that stators.

batteries will fit fine

weight should be good/fine

servos I'm not too sure on, but think they might be rather slow, I would recommend something better

Better tail servo too, more torque

BEC should be ok

not sure about your ESC

Here is a very short low quality video taken with a digital camera. This was only my second flight and i was feeling out the v-bar setup. I did a v-bar conversion on my trex 500 and i have been tweaking that thing non-stop. With the outrage 550 it was perfect on the very first flight, the only thing i have done with the v-bar is go from classic to ultra mode.

I will try to get a hold of a better video camera, keep in mind i am a sport flier so my actual flying will not be that impressive but the heli speaks for itself.

Hey, This is a long thread. I stopped reading about 1/2 way. Did H to C stop pushing the Neu motor? I know it's the best except I don't have one so the Scorpion 4025-1100 kv ,that I do have , is the best. it's in a Swift 16 modified into a .46 size machine.......6S4900, RT 550's, 85mm tail blades, TT .50 L Gear. It has almost as much attitude as I do talking about it! Love to see it wrung out by a real good pilot. I just cut holes in the sky with it. Can't seem to get close to the ground inverted.... yet.

Keep this thread going . It gives as good info for setups in the 550 range as any out there !

I think i must have the best setup on my 8S Outrage 550. My power and flight time are incredible. I'm running a 92% Flat curve on the ESC un-governed HS is around 2250 and my flights are 6:00. The power is ausom, and my ESC, Motor, And Lipo's are cool to the touch after a flight. 8S is deffinatly the way to go. I fly Sport 3d with Funnels, Tic Tocs, Power Flips, Piro Funnels. And i tend to fly big which is easier on the motor, and lipo. Anyways after 6 min of flying time i still have 35% in the packs.. Sometimes 40% Im really happy with my set up and thinking of buying another 550 and going flybarless. I love this heli ! I Here are the specs:

Outrage 550 CF Kit
Scorpion 4020 910kv
Rev-Co 13t Pinion
Hobby Wing HV 70 amp ESC
Western Robotics Hercules Super BEC
Outrage 8S 4200 Lipo
SAB 550mm Blades
JR 8417'S Cyclic Servos
Spartan / BLS 251 Rudder
Futaba R608FS Receiver

Hello guys ! I trying to define right motor for A123 10s1p O550. Currently i choose between 4020-910 at 13t and 4025-890 at 13t-14t or 4025-740 at 15-16t. What is the best choice for A123 ?

I'd go with the 4020-910 on a 12T or 13T if I was using A123 packs. That motor makes PLENTY of power and the 4025 series is just simply WAY overkill on this heli.

Thank you Greg , i don't understand,is the combo you are talking about is a the new 3D setup from Flying hobby? ( it would be nice) or are this the thing that you would change in the combo? (i think so)
I heard that the the Align gp750 perform as good as the spartan,Idon't think so but i can be wrong wha do you think?
Do you think that i can use a less expensive esc like a hobbywing or it is a wrong way to go?

P.S. sorry for my english i've learned it at shool and was looking at my nice teacher instead of learning

it is the combo from there , definatly get the kit and build it i learned so much from just setting up and if u have and oops you know how to fix it . now the things i switched after i got it together was due to cheap electronics or plastic parts that were brittle or broken (the flybar paddles. the align may be ok but i knew i wanted the spartan from a few who loved it
i havent got all my parts in yet to compleate so i would be the wrong guy to ask quality questions and flying issues , i just know what i saw so far has been the gaui bec fried on an small 600mah 2cell lipo and burnt my spartan literally, melted the voltage regulator off the board. i saw a regulator *external bec just like it here at the local hobby store and its made identical (align) so i didnt trust it went to CC and it looks like it will work *remember im using and external bec and a rx pack not the esc for the servos. trying to keep the load off the esc; i also like to see what is programmed into the esc and i cant with the gaui 75A it has no usb connectivity ,as for hobbywing i hear there having or were having issues as well as castle was i think some things you can get away with cheap and never have an issue i just dont want the bec or esc to be low end . i have heard lots and lots of guys are using hercules BEC and they love them i will save for one as i hear there pretty bullet proof at 6s, i wouldnt reccomend a cheap radio reciever or bec or esc those componants can easily cause a crash directly just as a broke link or something so i tried to use good parts i felt would outlast my attempts to crash on my own , Greg

Thank you Gregg, I understand that the cheap element can cost more if i crash because of theme ;).i will save some money to get better esc and bec for the outrage.

Hi guys,

After reading plenty of posts on O550, I definitly want to get this wonderfull bird now !
As I am still not sure which power option would be the best for me, I hope you could give me advice.

I begin doing 3D flight (on Hurricane 550) and so I would like to get HS around 2000-2100RPM.

I hesitate between running 6S (5000mA/H) with a 1100KV motor and running 8S (4000mA/H) with a 910KV motor.
Which option could give me the longer flight time ?

Thanks,
Sonny.

I'm going to say 8s its a hv setup and should be more efficient (longer run times cooler bats

Hi,

I am interested to buy an Outrage 550 soon and I need some advise.
I do only SPORT flying (roll and loop)
I prefer a long fly time than power.

My setup could be :

HobbyWing Pentium Brushless ESC 80A-OPTO

Scorpion HK-4020-1100KV or 1390KV
OR
Tonic-X Z30-1110KV
Which motor use less amp?
Which pinion gear (13T or 14T) do I need for these motor? And what modulus?

6S 5000mah
What should be a good C rating?

JR DS821 on cyclics

For receiver: Zippy 2s 2100 7.4v flight pack
HobbyWing C-UBEC 8A
OR
maybe I could use a C-UBEC 8A with my 6S 5000mah

Gyro and tail servo ...... any advise are welcome (not too expensive)

Thank's

Hello guys i am thinking of buying the 550 i have the velocity....
I am thinking of the 550 or w8ing for the Fusion??

If i go with the 550 i want the 6s Setup because my charger cannot charge 8s batts.... he can only charge 2x4s batts.. but i dont know if its good to use 2x4s or a 8s batt...Hyperion Duo 3:):)

Motor i will buy the scorpion 1390 and for esc the Kontronik 110 or the CastleCreations???

Also what about blades??

thx....

Also is their a change on the Cf And G10 apart from the frames???

do they weight the same??!

John Cook
03-06-2010, 11:26 AM
the CF might be ever so slightly lighter, but not much if any. The CF will be a bit stiffer as well. The G10 though is good though, and if I was buying today I'd do the G10 for the cost savings.

The Outrage 550 is a great heli. On a 6S setup it performs great. The Fusion should be even better as it's supposed to be the same weight or maybe lighter. Yet at 10S setups should be ballistic.

Honestly, the Outrage 550 still has a place in my fleet. 6S packs are cheaper, and I can toss the 550 in my trunk for some quick flights on my lunch hour at work, were a bit bigger heli is harder to fly at my job, due to size of the field. The 550 is the biggest I'm comfortable flying there at work. Blades are a bit cheaper as well.

Just depends on what you guys want. The Outrage 550 is by no means an outdated heli, just b/c the fusion is coming out. I'm running mine with the Align 100amp ESC which you can find pretty reasonable prices on in the forums too. As you move into the Fusion each component, from motor, esc, batteries will keep adding up the costs. I'm still getting one, but the 550 will still have a place for me. Plus I think I'm going to use it as a night flier too :cheers
