I have been using a Realflight G 3.5. If I get a phoenix can I use a real transmitter that I would use in the field. I am looking at a trex 450 for the near future can I use he same radio and is the graphics better on the Phoenix? Does it have a trex 450? Is it worth to spend $$$ on another sim?

Since you're posting this in the Phoenix forum, you're probably going to get emphatic "yes" answers to all your questions. Let me start:
Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

Go with Phoenix, It has most of the models with others being created. The great thing about it is all downloads are free.
Phoenix requires you to use your own Tx. Maybe people see having to use their Tx as a disadvantage but its actually a advantage, the feel of your radio is important. Knowing where the center is, knowing the stick limits, where the buttons are ..... I've had G3.5 and i bought phoenix , i just wish i had sooner.

I went with Phoenix specifically because I wanted to use my radio. And the one guy I fly with occasionally, who has 3.5, says that Phoenix is much better in the way it looks, and the way it flys.

I am in the same boat, I have 3.5. At the time I didn't know about phoenix. I am thinking about sellin 3.5. So the physics are better in phoenix? Realflight seems too easy, almost like a video game.

I sold my G3.5 and purchased Phoenix. I'm much happier. I do miss the training videos that were in realflight, but phoenix runs so much smoother on my high end laptop.
And updates are free instead of having to purchase packs. And if you're so inclined, there's a model editor that you can download for phoenix.

That is incorrect, updates and patches to the software are free via the Launcher interface.
As an owner of both software packages, I really don't have a preference of one over the other.
For Realflight, I do enjoy the large selection of free custom models available via their swap pages.
For Phoenix I enjoy using my existing DX7 for sim practice.
G3.5 -> G4
Addon 1,2,3,4,5 ?
Expansion packs 1,2
Those "updates" weren't free. Thats the updates they are referring to.

Those are not updates, they are optional Expansion packs, and Add-ons.
If you are a current G4 customer: Add-ons 1,2 and 3 are currently FREE, Add-ons 4,5 are also promised to be given away soon.
Software bug fixes and patches are "updates" that fix bugs are FREE.
G3.5 -> G4 is a major software release that gives you water and several other features, it is unreasonable to expect that sort of technological progression to be free.
The same will be true for Phoenix some day, these companies can't stay succesful for the long-term for giving away content. The business side of things will force them to fine new revenue outlets.
You can't judge a product based on possible future practices, you can only judge them based on what they currently do. And Phoenix currently has frequent updates. I too have owned both sim btw.

Where did you buy Phoenix? I see the price is going up on the website, now over $160.

And still a bargain, IMHO.
I bought mine direct from Phoenix and had it delivered from the UK to KY in 4 days.

Blame it on the weak dollar.

I assume you realize you can use your DX7 with RealFlight as well. You just need a cable to connect your transmitter to the back of the RealFlight controller. So in that regard RealFlight and Phoenix are equal.

Personally, I like the fact that I don't log my countless sim hours on my real controller. On the other hand, I would like to try Phoenix since I hear nothing but good about it.

All of the rexs are standard models.
